View Full Version : Labs in Hawthorne,NV need help
We have 4 black labs in our county shelter that need help, they are all fairly young and just want to go to a place they can call home. We get about 20 labs a month into this shelter as they are the most popular breed in our smal town, we get mainly Chocolats but this time they happen to be black.
Please let me know if you can help.

MISS LISA 12-24-2003, 11:16 AM How far is Hawthorne from Las Vegas? Can you post any pics? And more info.. I am looking for a black female... Let me know please!
Hi,
We have a black female approx. 1 year of age. Very sweet. Very Very smart. If you don't clip her kennel she will let herself out as well as all her friends!!! She is great. Just very bored and that is one way to entertain herself. We are about 6 hours north of Las Vegas. She likes kids and other dogs (submissive to them) and we will see her response to cats today as well as pictures.
Thank you so much for your interest in Vixen.
Samantha
MISS LISA 12-24-2003, 04:04 PM Ok... yeah my yellow can be an escape artist.. I do not kennell the dogs though - they have a dog run in the back yard, or just stay inside during the day... Is she spayed yet? Ok, she is good with kids.. is she skittish or gunshy? Heidi (my other rescue) is.. so.. Ok.. as soon as you get pics, please post.. also details of how you go about adopting them, prices... etc.. etc..
Thanks :)
Well they are at the county shelter. We charge a $10 adoption fee and then either we can spay her here BUT it is 112 dollars thru our vets here. Or we charge a $85 dolar deposit and she has to be spayed in 30 days. That is how the county works so far. We are working on getting the dogs spayed before they leave but right now that is not the laws here :(
I will get pics sorry but today we got caught in a shopping jam and it took forever to get anywhere. SHe is not shy at all. She does not seem to have been abused or anything, she is very outgoing and enjoys company.
Thanks
Samantha
MISS LISA 12-24-2003, 11:20 PM Ok... well let me know- I would probably just pay the $112 to get her spayed before she came home- She is all up to date on vaccines and rabies right? Alright, well just let me know when you get some pics.. how long do you hold on to them before I could come up and get her.. Just wondering.. I wont be in town this weekend.. so... well just let me know
Thanks!
It would be easier but not sure how soon we could get her in. It is only usually a feew days. Well I will call the vet Friday to see when she could get in. I will also get her up to date on her shots for you. "if" you want her LOL. I will try to get some snap shots of her. Basically we hold them as long as we can, we try not to put any of the dogs down, we have only had to put down 4 in the last 4 months and they were all aggressive towards humans.
Thanks for considering this girl she is something special.
Samnatha
MISS LISA 12-25-2003, 11:59 AM Ok. Please do post them- and once you have her up to date vaccine records- please either email them or fax to me, so I know she is all taken care of - I will be checking back into this all weekend, so if you get some pics, I will see them, and let you know if I can come adopt her.
:)
Thanks so much!!!
Bailey's Family 12-27-2003, 12:55 AM That is so great MISS LISA that you may adopt another lab!!! I am waiting to see the pics too!
I hope it all works out for you and this new girl!!
Good Luck!:)
MISS LISA 12-27-2003, 08:06 PM Thanks :) I hope so too.. Cant wait to see!! :)
Sorry it was a long weekend. Family came out and we had a pipe break in the shelter and some major repairs going so no pictures. I will get some today. She is very sweet and all.
Now for the shots. I will pay for them BUT the nearest vet is a 45 minute drive so to have to drive once for the spay and then again for the shots can be a pain. Also I dont have enough money in the account to cover the spay. I run the shelter on donations as the county is strapped and wont help.
SO we will get the pictures and then IF you like her then we will go from there. Not sure how this will work I hope it does she is a sweetie. Right now she is kenneled with a cocker spaniel and is doing well.
Thanks again.
MISS LISA 12-30-2003, 11:05 AM Yes,please do post. See here is my problem, I would probably have enough to get her spayed but its going to cost me approx $150 down here, so I would not be able to afford that and the $85 deposit at the same time..Plus the gas to get up there and back.. Kind of strapped right now with the holidays. I am going out of town on business for the 10th and 11th. My best friend is staying at my house with the dogs, but I would either have to get her this weekend - or the weekend following that.. which might be too long- So once you post and let me know when you think you'll have her current on shots- We can go from there... Hope it works out well too- I really want to be able to help her out.. :(
Let me know asap :)
Hey guys these pups still need help. We have a list of dogs that are going to be put to sleep on Tuesday and there are 3 labs on the list. Please if you know of a rescue let me know.
Bailey's Family 01-03-2004, 05:48 PM I dont mean to be rude, so if I come across that way I dont mean too.
But if you sincerely want to find forever homes ASAP, then maybe you should get back to people ASAP.
Its not fair to leave people hanging. Its especially not fair to the dogs!!! I realize that you are busy, but it would only take a few minutes to post and reply.
Just my opinion,
Jamie
I dont understand your post. I got back to the only person who replied to me. That person adopted a dog in need in her area, I see nothing wrong with this, but I do see something wrong with being rude. Just so you may understand I volunteer for this shelter and do everything for the shelter except pick up the dogs and euthanasia. Everything else I do FREE of charge to anyone.
I am VERY busy, I volunteer 5 hours a day 7 days a week, rain, shine, snow, or backed up sewage :) .. I also have 4 children and am in the process of trying to get a daycare started, so sometimes I get busy and sometimes pictures are not an option due to weather etc... I figured a temperment comes first before looks, if it is a sweet dog who cares what it looks like?
I deal with the idiots who dont want to spay their females before a litter becuase they wont be good dogs, I raise money to pay for the dogs to get fixed up if they come in injured. Prior to my arrival the euthanasie rate was 95 percent, in the 4 months I have been there we have had to put down 4 dogs because they were aggressive. I do not want to start puting healthy happy dogs down, I was only asking for help.
Thanks for your concern

Well, I apologize for sounding rude. I just think that you contridict yourself, first you say that you only had to put four dogs down in four months, and above you say that three labs are on your list to be PTS.
I wish that I was closer, I could help out, but I am still a little confused on your posts. Isnt there any no kill shelters or rescues in the Nevada area?
Check out Petfinder.com, I know that some of the people work out transports and such, depending on your area. Maybe try and post something on their website about the labs.
Well I do not know of any rescue for labs in Nevada. I know I talked to a Lab rescue in CA and they did not know of one in Nevada either. The rescues in this state are all full all the time.
We have only had to put down the 4 dogs, there are no contridictions just not enough room in our shelter, the shelter has 11 kennels and right now we are running with 16 dogs.
Thanks for your help if you know of any other site that can help us I would love it.
Bailey's Family 01-04-2004, 02:37 AM This is what I would do. Do a Google search, and although there isnt any lab rescues in Nevada, you could organize a transport to another state that is closer to you. Maybe CA or Arizona etc.
Please check out www.petfinder.com, maybe register and check out the transport and rescue threads, there may be possibly someone organizing transports for other animals and may be willing to pull the animals from your shelter.
Please keep us updated.
Good Luck!
josan 01-04-2004, 08:01 AM This may help too please check the Petfinder sites classified ads for people looking for dogs! Some people are looking for a specific dog(like a Lab)and may be interested!
MISS LISA 01-05-2004, 06:24 PM This might help... HHS, call Knoahs Ark- 702-808-4605 - it is a 40 acre ranch that adopts dogs and fosters them. Maybe they can take them?? It is located in Sandy Valley.. Its worth a try.. and I am still keeping my eyes out for someone who wants to adopt..
Hope it helps
MollyPie 01-27-2004, 11:31 PM Hope everything ended up working out?
Well it has so far. No adoptions but the dogs were safe. The head sherriff called the AC officer and told him that it was crazy to have so many dogs down there and there is no room for the dogs coming in. We Euthed 4 yesterday and 4 more came in yesterday :(
So now we have to find even more to put down. I have put weeks of training into these dogs and now have to face the horrible decision of who to put down :( I am just praying that a rescue or something comes thru!
Thanks for asking, We adopted one out but 45 minutes later he came back BY HIMSELF! LOL he jumped the fence and came running back to the shelter! So he (bandit) is going to be the shelter dog, and the people greeter. HE goes to get neutered next month.
Thanks
