I know that with a dog they should have water available at all times, and with my two dogs, i do, but we have a new lab puppy and anytime theres water she inhales it!! he belly gets sooo wide and she lays down and starts whining and needs to be brought out about 3 times in the next twenty minutes. then she'll do it all over again!! should i just be only giving her a certain amount each day?

I'm not an expert, but I think I would try giving limited amounts, say half a cup at a time and see what happens. Maybe it just isn't recognizing the signal that says 'I'm not thirsty anymore'. What would happen if you gave it half a cup or so, then after it had wandered off, put the dish back down?

We have usually left the water down all the time. If the puppy wasn't making it over night by 10 weeks, we would start taking it up at 7 PM. There have been a few cases where a puppy at first drank, and drank, until we took the water up.

Dogs can bloat from drinking to much water rapidly. I would limit her amount.
