Have you all seen that there is a new form of Lepto that the dogs are carrying? Not only is it contagious to your dog, but humans can even catch it. How sad is that? Like adding insult to injury....

Linda, at least in KS this has not been a very common disease and this is the first year we have vaccinated for it; in fact, two are going in for their boosters this coming week. I have no idea if lepo has always been common in LA or if it the contaminated water, and the like.

By the way, friend of friend type story. A guy came back from two weeks volunteering down there. He is an EMS worker, so he was there to help rescue people and help with body retrievals. He had weird marks on his skin and in his mouth. A doctor here in KS knew chemical burns when he saw them; the chemicals were in the water. So as the guy went wading through water to get to people, he had skin/water contact. The mystery was how did he burn his mouth. No one there was drinking the water, showering in it, cooking in it etc. Ah, but they didn't think when it came to brushing their teeth. That little bit of exposure is all it took to burn his mouth. No surprise lepo is passing easily. :(

PS: the yellow lab in your sig is absolutely gorgeous!!

Thanks Susan, that is my Bucky boy. Isn't that something about the chemicals and all, I think they'll see many new forms of cancer down there, and that's just the beginning, I'm afraid. I sure don't want to be a pessimist, but those poor, poor people and animals. Still makes me just sick....hopefully everything will be addressed as soon as possible by the government and stopped as soon as possible.

Yep, but I'd rather stay away a while than risk catching it myself, wouldn't you? :)

That is just awful! I wonder what all will come out of this tragedy?
