Lisa had her second surgery today (see her original thread below or read her story at http://www.labradorfriends.com/lisa.htm). The vet spayed her, took out the umbilicus hernia, and he operated on her leg!!! Yes, only one leg for now. The way I understood it is that her knee did not have a patella or did not have the space in the bone for the two bones to stay in place (ok if there is someone out there who knows anatomy you can explain it to me...). So the knee would go all over the place and she could not stand. After observing her for a few days, he decided that the problem was more pronounced on one leg. Given that we will most likely have to operate again he opted to do only one leg for now. She is doing well already. She has a soft cast and he is expecting her to start walking tomorrow. She will have to walk with that for a little while and the hope is that she will start walking more straight up. Then, when the stitches come out in 10-14 days, we will have to do therapy.

So all our thoughts now are for her to walk tomorrow!!!

Jenny, our president, is planning on going to see her on Saturday and take pictures for us...if I cannot resist without checking on her with my own eyes, I may drive another two hours on Saturday to go see her again :-) Can you tell I am in love? If I was not going to Italy for 5 months in January I would bring her to my house.... from where she would probably never leave...!

A big and fun fund raiser for Lisa is scheduled to start on January 28th...stay posted for more information next month. We will need everyone's help to make that be a big success.

Ok, I seen these pictures. What a gorgeous dog! Poor thing. I really hope she finds a great home that can accomodate her needs. She is very special! Her story brought tears to my eyes.
