Hi All,
I live in a small town in NY state (Rosendale) and have not been able to hook up with any lab rescue sites locally.
My intention is to adopt a 1 -2 year old lab preferably brown or yellow this summer.
If there is any one with information to help, please contact me directly using my email (rosendale3@hvc.rr.com).
Thanks and I am very impressed with this site so far!

Hi! Thank you for choosing to adopt a homeless lab!! I'm sure somebody will be able to help you find the perfect dog for you.

Any reason why you prefer chocolate or yellow? I ask because the are at least 4 times as many black labs in need of good homes as yellow and probably 6 times as many blacks than chocolates. (those numbers are probably low). Either way I'm sure there is a choc or yellow that needs you, I like to ask all new adopters why the don't choose black.

Good luck!

I just looked up your town, and it is near New Paltz. There has got to be a lab rescue group within driving distance for you.
Isn't there someone on here in CT?

I am sure http://www.labs4rescue.com/ adopts in your area. And I agree with Deneen - if you are open to a black lab there are a LOT more of those available.

Here below is a link to a chocolate male lab, 2 to 3 yrs old, that is with the Labs4Rescue CT group:

Labs4Rescue CT also has a handsome 1.5 to 2 yr old yellow lab male named Trenton:

As Deneen mentioned, there are a lot more black labs in need of adoption, as there are many more of those dumped in shelters. If you would consider a black lab, the Labs4Rescue CT site has a LOT of b labs listed as available.

Look at this gorgeous black lab male named Kip:

Here's their list of all their available labs of all 3 colours, chocolate, black and yellow:

Hi There,

Today my family just adopted a yellow lab from labs4rescue. I didn't car about color or sex but I ended up with a yellow male. He came up from Tennessee in a trailer with a bunch of other dogs who also were going to their forever homes. I picked him up in Harrisburg, Pa at 5:30am. I live in MD (btwn Balt and D.C.)The driver was stopping in NY, not sure where. I found out about labs4rescue from Nicole K on this board (sorry Nicole- I can't recall you SN). I went to their website and emailed Lisa all about me and my family and she called me right after I emailed her and she said she had the perfect dog for me. That was last Sunday. I was in NC on vacation. When we got home I filled out my app and sent it on. Ben #8 (now Bugsy) is the most wonderful dog. had to have a name change as our son is Benjamin. He is aprox 8 months old knows some commands (sit, down, stay), housetrained, cratetrained, loves our 19 month old son, but he does knock him over by accident sometimes but our son loves it. We took him to petsmart today and on a walk. None of our neighbors believed us when we said he just joined the family TODAY. He is sleepping peacefully in his crate now. I think we wore him out today. We had an invisible fence installed and they are coming on Wed to train him. That will be nice when he can get off the leash and play. For now we keep him on a flexileash, but we can tell he is dying to play fetch. My husband who had to be convinced to get a dog just said to me "well I have to admit you picked us a good dog". I said don't thank me-thank Lisa at labs4rescue. She thought he would be a perfect match and he is. My only issue is with our cats. The cats are curious, but the one came through the baby gate to get downstairs and the dog chased him when he ran but the dog only wanted to play. Sorry I am going on and on. I am just very happy with our dog from labs4rescue. If you want any more info email me privately or PM me. I'd be glad to help you out in any way possible. I do know of a Choc. male who was going to labs4rescue from a shelter in NY. If you want I can give you the name and email of the lady who is handling his care. Her name is Susan and she too seems like a lovley lady. Good Luck in your search. I hope I could be of some help. Everyone on this board was such a help to me when I was searching I only hope I can be of assistance for someone else. I need to post Bugsys pics for everone when my husband gets them off the camera.

Hey there!
We can help you find a Lab of your dreams.

Naturally I must point to my siggy- Sadler is WONDERFUL and he is right here in Brookfield CT with me and my 2 labs and my 2 cats. I KNOW he's black- but he's still fantastic.

Please let me know if I can assist you.

FYI- Brownie the chocolate Lab, from Hi Tor Shelter in NY is now in a Labs4Rescue NJ foster home. 4 year old Chocolate lab, absolutely wonderful, does have epilepsy that is curtailed with a very affordable medication (just a pill twice a day, no big deal).

We have around 30 dogs in individual foster homes in New England this week, with the remaining 100+ waiting for homes while they live in the South. We have a professional transporter who drives up every weekend. All dogs are vaccinated and spayed/neutered prior to placement and we do require a home visit with you.

PPS. Kip has had little to no interest- no particular reason why, just because he's black basically and he is drop dead gorgeous!! I believe we rescued Kip from somewhere in New England because Ann Hilchey was just talking about him to me last night- NICE dog!

Hi just got back to this discussion group today.
My preference is purely due to the number of black dogs in my neighborhood.
I have been on the search and do see that there are many black labs out there and may be I will be thinking differently about this by the end of the month.
thanks

I'm a volunteer with Georgia Lab Rescue. You can take a look at our website as we adopt out of state and are in the process of looking to transfer some of our guys up to New Jersey (seems they have a backlog of people looking for labs). Website is www.georgialabrescue.com
Good luck on your search and thank you so much for choosing to give a homeless doggie a forever home!! :) Sandy
