Thank you SO MUCH!! I just emailed them and am anxiously waiting! Have you ever adopted? I got Annie from a breeder in Flemington, New Jersey after extensive reseaching and am so pleased with her. In fact Annie is our 2nd yellow lab - our first was also from a breeder in Jersey and she lived a wonderful (spoiled rotten) 14 years!

We live on an acre and a half with a great yard that has a tennis court and inground pool (which Annie has her own raft). A very nice and quiet neighboorhood.

I got Dugan, who is a 2 year old black lab, for my boyfriend, who is a cop, of 8 years and he is currently training for narcotics with him. He is doing so well - they are such fast learners!

Thank you again for all your help - I really appreciate it and I will keep you updated!

I noticed in Beanie's write up that upon adoption, we will be altered (I'm assuming that is neutered) and microchipped? What is the purpose of that - I never heard such a thing?

No problem. Glad to help.

Hunter was a breeder purchase.

What a mistake, at least in my case. My wife went and bought him without telling me, and he just so happened to be the last puppy there. She couldn't leave him there, he had such a great expression, she said.

I love him regardless and would not trade him for the world, but he's had some orthopedic problems which I would have noticed had I been there.

On the other hand, I'm glad it was me who ended up with him. Had someone else been his owner, they probably would have put him down when it was discovered that he would need $5000 in orthopedic surgery.

He's better off with me.

But my next pupster will be a rescue.

And the reason for altering him is so that he cannot be bred. There are too many puppies already awaiting death in too many shelters.

Also, the microchip is in case he ever gets lost, and found, wherever he is taken can check him for the chip, which will then trace him to you.

Wow - well thank goodness he ended up with such a compassionate owner! I can't blame your wife - I would have probably done the same thing! The pics are great! I'm trying to attach one of Annie but an error is coming up telling me the attachment is too big.

Are they doing that (microchip) with all adopted dogs now?

I believe so, most of the time, on the microchip.

Your attachment needs to be under 50kb, and less that 500x500 pixels.

If you're still having trouble, send it to me @ jason@hardcore50.com, and I'll resize it for you.

JaimeLynne:
Adopt A Lab Indiana does adopt to out of state adopters. In fact, Stevie was adopted to a wonderful lady in Massachusetts. For obvious reasons, out of state adoptions, require excellent vet references. For out-of-state adoptions, we will arrange with someone from a rescue near you to do our home visit.

If you are not able to find a lab through any of the rescues near you listed on www.petfinder.com (http://www.petfinder.com) then please feel free to visit the Adopt A Lab Indiana website.

One of our volunteers and a moderator for this section, Linda Accup is also very active in acmetransport and if needed, I'm sure she'd be happy to help arrange transport.

That is why I was wondering if it had to be a PB, we don't usually get many labs with papers in rescue. Doesn't mean they're not PB, but papers sometimes get lost, etc. :)

Also, you can contact AALI as I have heard they may start making regular transports to places such as Boston.

You can also contact the Animal Rescue League of Boston for a lab, too.

Several possibilities, but was still wondering if you needed papers?

Have you tried www.labs4rescue.com?

They pull labs from shelters in the south and bring them up north for adoption. They are great to work with. We fostered for them while we lived in upstate New York.

Good Luck.

I am responding to your posting about you looking for another lab. I have a one year old male yellow lab named Dakota that I am looking for a new home for. He is up to date on all his shots and is fixed. I was really hoping that his new home would be with a someone that already has another dog for dakota to play with. If you are stilling looking for that second lab I look foward to your response. If you would like my email me address is dolphin19757@hotmail.com.

We adopted Sierra thru petfinder - through 4paws animal rescue in NJ. Smooth transaction and we were lucky to get her. There were about 40 families there for 2 lab pups. She is now 18 months and a joy!

I am not an animal lover and swore having a dog would be torturous for me. Believe it or not - I love her now. Thought has crossed my mind to adopt another - but hmmm - don't know. Definitely not sharing that thought with family! It could come back and bite me! LOL.

Good luck.
