View Full Version : Looking for chocolate female lab puppy
noboost4you 12-27-2007, 12:24 PM I've checked local shelters and the newspaper. Unfortunately, people in the paper want an arm and a leg for purebreds. We were fortunate with Bella that she is a purebred and was relatively inexpensive. Not too many shelters have purebreds either. She doesn't need to be purebred in the sense because we will not register her nor breed her. However, we just love the way purebreds look. (Hope that didn't come off in a negative way)
I am located in the Cleveland, Ohio area and will drive a reasonable distance to rescue/adopt a chocolate female purebred lab puppy.
Bella needs a new playmate :)
lellolablover 12-27-2007, 02:21 PM Look one section down under Crossposts and there is an absolutely gorgeous young male chocolate pup that appears to be pb. Is there any reason you have to have a female. This fellow is ever so cute and is looking for a home now. Worth a thought. Also someone to pull for you.

mainly physical appearance (if you catch my drift) ;)
Rocky911 12-27-2007, 02:33 PM Actually - I don't can't your drift.
Are you sure you are ready for another pup. With your worries about HD on your current young pup - might be better to get an older rescue or wait until your current pup is abit older.

My worries with Bella play no role with wanting another pup. Affordability is not an issue. I just prefer to rescue/adopt rather than buy from a puppy mill.

I just ment are you truely ready for another young dog when your Bella is still a pup (9mts?). She has lots of growing and "teenage" years to come
Having said that, going with a rescue is great (especially if one isn't ready to pay teh cost of a pup from a reputable breeder).
Jake's Momma 12-27-2007, 03:14 PM Good luck with your search! I don't have any help in the way of finding a puppy. But I wanted to let you know that we have four dogs all aged between 1 year and 3.5 years. Lots of training makes even those teenage months bearable. It CAN be done. Again, good luck!!
I'm not sure that I've ever come across a chocolate female pup under the age of 9 months old in rescue. There are quite a few rescues in Ohio, you should check them out.
Kim Sellers 12-27-2007, 03:26 PM If you change your mid about a pup, I know where there are 2 purebred choc females needing homes. They are 3 and 4 yrs old though. But housebroke, spayed and UTD. Good luck with your search.
Kim Sellers 12-27-2007, 03:39 PM Greater Dayton Lab rescue has one but it will still cost you 250.00. Choc pups are hard to find in a shelters.
Joe Maringo at Sparro will be getting 3 chocolate female pups - about 10 weeks the first of the year. I don't know what his adoption fee is though.
There are pictures of them under the black and chocolate puppies from KY post in this section. I have them right now and they are beyond cute!!

No I do not catch your drift. What do you mean?
It does not matter to me that you prefer a female, but what you mean is unclear.

lellolablover 12-27-2007, 06:35 PM I believe Joe posts his adoption rules and his fees right on his web site so the information is available.
I guess I'm a bit too involved in rescue to quite understand why someone would want to have a pure bred - well it doesn't have to be a pure bred - and not want to pay an arm and a leg - but affordability is not an issue - and it has to be a female because of the physical appearance... Alot of contradictions here. If you are looking for a companion, and a playmate for your other pup, the range of acceptability would be far greater than what's going on here. Ohio has alot of shelters with alot of good looking young Labs that are being euthanized because there aren't enough homes for them. Perhaps a bit a soul searching is in order here.
noboost4you 12-27-2007, 06:50 PM Don't want a male because we don't want the "boys" hanging out 24/7. Sorry, personal preference.
We prefer a purebred because we love the way they look. We're not going to adopt/rescue for the sake of adopting or rescuing...sorry.
We prefer to adopt/rescue a lab that we want and not feed the puppy mills with cash they don't deserve. Money is not an issue, but we will not spend $400 on a purebred puppy when there are purebred puppies that need rescuing first.
So lellolablover and others please stop criticizing our personal preferences. We would like to adopt/rescue if we can and you shouldn't be questioning what we want; it's none of your business.
I'm sorry I even posted this thread.

Thank you for clarifying the part about "getting your drift." I thought perhaps you meant you did not want to see his penis, but I really wasn't sure. Because you sound like someone who would neuter, I did not think of the fact you might mean his testicles. (They are often less obvious after neutering, hence the product called neuticles.)
I, for one, do not care that you prefer a female over a male. That is a decision you make and I would not judge someone on a gender preference. I just wanted to understand the "get the drift" remark.
I hope you find the pup you are looking for.
