MODs - can you move this to the main Agility board?

I just rescued Parker in May, he has come a LONG way in his training, and is such a fun dog.

I know I am biased, but I think he has some amazing talents.

1) He is FAST - very aerodynamic
2) He can jump HIGH - from a sittng position the other day he jumped up a 5 ft retaining wall to greet my DH
3) He can jump LONG - bushes, deck, other dogs - no problem.

I thoght he might like agility - just for fun... How do you get started??

I found a local trainer who does agility through the recommendation of a friend. Irie LOVES the teacher and agility, so it was a good fit for us. I also agree with how the trainer trains, that's a big deal in finding a successful class. If you don't like some aspect of dog training, make sure you find a trainer who doesn't do that.

I think I would start by going to a trial in your area to see what it's all about and then find a beginning class. It's so much fun! We've been training for about a year and hope to be trialing this fall. You can find trials by searching the AKC website, or Clean Run, or USDAA, or CPE, or NADAC, or UKC...I think those are all the major organizations that have Agility trials. Good luck and have fun!!

This may be a silly question but do the organizations you list allow mixed breeds to compete?

All but AKC I think. And in AKC, if your dog looks mostly lab, you can apply for an ILP/PAL number. I know USDAA and UKC and CPE all welcome mixed breeds - not sure about NADAC - I haven't looked into them yet.
