View Full Version : Looking for a very special dog for a very special person!
peakwagger 04-26-2007, 08:29 PM Hey gang!
My best friend and her mom came to me knowing that I have lots of connections with rescue groups and I told them I would LOVE to help them out. My best friend's mom has been thinking about getting a dog for a while and finally feels like she's really ready to start looking. Without going into detail, this woman has been through a LOT in the last few years and I really want to help her find a GREAT new best friend. If anyone deserves it, its her. :)
She is looking for a SENIOR lab (or lab mix), preferably female. She is looking for a dog that is very well-mannered, easy going, and calm, and good with kids and other dogs. Preferably eight years or older. She does not have much experience with dogs as pets - she is from New Zealand and spent a lot of time around working dogs, but not pet dogs - so a dog that is "beginner friendly" would be ideal.
We have been looking on Petfinder but because of her lack of experience she says she would REALLY feel more comfortable getting a dog that has been in a foster home - she really wants to be sure she finds the right dog. :)
I'm SO excited about this and wanted to put feelers out there with you guys. She is in the Kansas City area.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

Please holler at me if you end up wanting more info on either of them. I know they're not close to you--but it's always fun to 'window shop'. ;)

My Sweet Daisy 04-26-2007, 10:32 PM That's wonderful she is looking to help a senior. :) I love trying to find the perfect dog for people. It's like match making. lol
I know this girl isn't coming from a foster place but her face tells a lot about her. I just thought I'd throw her out in case you didn't see her while going through petfinder.

Lucy is Karen's current foster dog. I know she's not a senior but she might be just what you are looking for.
PATEX 04-30-2007, 03:39 PM How wonderful that she is looking for a senior! I am sure that someone here will hook her up with a terrific one!
peakwagger 04-30-2007, 07:35 PM Thanks for the input everyone! She is still in NZ visiting her mom (who is sick) - I'll send all these girls on to her when she gets home. :)
Biscuit 05-01-2007, 11:07 AM We are currently fostering an older female lab, Abbie. We live 20 minutes North of KC. The petfinder link description was written by my wife. I will PM you with my phone number if you would like to talk about her with us.
Here is Abbie's Petfinder link:

And since we are the actual foster home, here are some additional pics
Here's Abbie, waiting for treats:

Flightline 05-01-2007, 12:13 PM Abbie is one good looking lady... She looks like she may try to cuddle up in bed with ya.:thumb4:
Biscuit 05-01-2007, 12:17 PM Till she loses a little weight, I don't think she could get up there! Biscuit normally takes up any spare room on the bed anyways.

Here is there description. They are totally vetted and have no medical issues. The only condition is they stay together.
Hi,
I am a volunteer with several rescues in the Alabama. I have two senior labs that were owner surrender because they were to old to breed anymore. They said the labs were only 7 years old, the male (black) may only be seven but the female(chocolate) I think is older. These dogs have had very poor vet care, and they were so skinny when I got them. They are doing good right now, but I cannot keep them I have 14 dogs now in my 1 acre backyard. These two are so special , but I cannot get a rescue to take them. I have emailed and called everyone I know, and no one is willing to take them. I know you are too far away from me to help, but I was hoping maybe you knew someone that would. My "rescue" group they were turned in to wants to put them down, they say they are not adoptable because they look bad. I SAY NO !!! I will do anything to keep them alive. I am doing all I can. Both are spayed/neutered and utd on shots, housebroken and walk well on a leash.
If you know anyone, or any rescue I might can contact please let me know. These are wonderful seniors with so much life left to live and they are begging for love and attention. I will attach their pics and I have more pics if you want them.
Thank you for any advice you have.
