As you may (or may not) know I am the Admin Assistant for a Branch of St John Ambulance. SJA is most well known for its First Aid and Therapy Dog Programs.

The person coordinating the Therapy Dog Program for my Branch is compelled to resign and has asked if I am interested in taking over. I am definitely interested. It would be a way to tie in several areas of personal interest – I know little about our TD unit, my Achilles may be a TD candidate, it would be a way of extending my involvement with SJA and the community, I would like to integrate dogs more into community life, and I am becoming more and more comfortable in small group communication.

Here are my questions. Has anyone coordinated the activities of a TD group? Not necessarily specifically for SJA, but coordinating any TD work?

I am aware that you have to solicit, test, and supervise new volunteers. What about maintaining a unit, going into the community and soliciting new clients?

I will appreciate any thoughts you have.

I have a contact for you as well Andrew. I'll get her email address this week. She volunteers with St. John's in Burlington.
