Jackson is being fed Candidae, he is 10.5 months old. He gets 1.5 cups, twice/day for a total of 3 cups/day. My husband was thinking that because this is a better food that J doesn't need as much, but he seems to gobble it down and he is only 60 pounds (J is 1/2 lab, 1/2 boxer but looks primarily like a lab).
I know Labs can eat all day, but I also don't want him starving.
I was curious your thoughts....

Calvin is around 85lbs and on Canidae - He gets 4 cups a day.
The best thing to do is to watch their weight...it's amazing how quickly they can lose and gain weight with the fluctuating of their food. Somewhere, maybe on labbies website, there are some pictures of what a dog should look like at their ideal weight. I'll look for it and re-post. Here's a picture of Calvin - on the thin side, but no ribs showing:

My lab gets 4-5 cups of food a day. Actually it depends of how much exercise I give him. 60 pounds in 10 months? I'd say he needs a little more meat on his bones. Unless he has some muscle in him.

I don't agree with that. Being there are different styles/builds of Labs, one can't say that a Lab needs more weight on them with out actually seeing the dog and being able to put your hands on him. Some Labs only end up being 50 lbs. while others end up being 100+.
A dog at a good weight should have an hour glass figure when looked at from above. You should also be able to feel the ribs with out having to dig for them. If you're very easily feeling all the ribs and hips, then I'd say a dog needs a little more weight. If you have to dig around to be able to feel ribs, then the dog could loose a few pounds.

Thanks,
Oh, Jackson is a lab/boxer mix so the vet doesn't think he'll get above 65 if that. He has definitely filled out, but he does have the hourglass figure.
He gets 1.5-2 cups/2 times/day. Plus he gets lots of yummy treats etc.

Hunter gets 4-5 cups a day. Sometimes he gets six...
If I decrease that amount, he loses weight.
He is now on Kirkland.

My girls are all on Chicken Soup - and eat 2 cups a day. One in the morning and one at night. Any more, they gain weight- so I have kept them at this and they look great. Definately think it depends on the dog. Pebbles is 2 and weighs 69lbs- Heidi is a lab/beagle mix- and she is stocky and 5 years old and at 49lbs- and Kali is 2 and a half years old and weighs in at about 53 or 54lbs- I have always been told, exactly what YellowDog03 wrote about the ribs thing..
