View Full Version : Meet Twyla - 3 Year Old Black Lab... LVLR's Latest Girl!
MISS LISA 07-05-2006, 06:39 PM This sweet girl was a stray brought in by a shelter in Arizona (Lori .. Poochsaver is her user name on here.. she is GREAT!)
Twyla is a 3 year old black lab mix. Her face/head is all lab, but her coat has a bit of wave to it and she has a docked tail. This sweet girl is spayed, UTD on shots and microchipped.
She came in to us last week- so she is learning how to be an inside dog. We are working on her housebreaking and crate training. She gets along great with other dogs and kids. She does pretty good on her recall and will give the ball when she brings it back to you. With a little training and work, Twyla would make a great addition to any home!
Jill (BratWorst) is fostering her, so for more information feel free to PM me or her.. She has other pics that she will try to post in the next few days!

Shantis Mom 07-05-2006, 06:41 PM Awww Lisa - she is just beautiful! Her face just seems to say - "Look how pretty I am - you know you want me!!!!!"
Im sure you will find her a wonderful family!!!
MISS LISA 07-05-2006, 06:44 PM Aww! Thanks Kathy! She is SUCH a sweet girl.. I hope the part Rottie doesn't scare people off.. she truly is a sweetheart and just wants to be loved! :)
Bentley's Mom 07-05-2006, 06:50 PM She looks like such a sweetie :D Just wanting a few cuddles and to run and play all day :D I'm sure she will find a great forever home!
MISS LISA 07-05-2006, 06:58 PM Thanks Janet! :)
Bodie Ride 07-05-2006, 09:15 PM Is it possible she had pebbles syndrome Lisa and had her tail docked? When you see her in person, do you see the rottie in her? She sure doesn't look it.
MISS LISA 07-05-2006, 09:19 PM No.. she definitely has the rottie wave to her hair.. kind of like Heather's Rylie.. and her tail is docked shorter than Pebbles. Its a rottie rear end for sure.. she is all black though, no other coloring.
We also have a yellow girl who's tail was slammed in the door as a pup so she has no tail and she is a purebred, so that might help a bit at the adoption days. Not to mention, if I bring pics of Pebs..
MISS LISA 07-06-2006, 09:37 AM Here are some more pics her foster mom took this weekend at the lake!

Heather 07-06-2006, 11:22 AM She does definitely have a rottie rear to her. They are an awesome breed so the mix should not discourage the right owner, heck- Jake my border collie has some rottie in him. I'd adopt her in a heartbeat if I were looking! ;)
MISS LISA 07-10-2006, 10:38 AM *bump* for Twyla!
CherLovesLabs 07-10-2006, 11:56 AM Oh, she's absolutely beautiful !!!! Look at those pretty white teeth! I feel like such a cheater gushing over this dog ... but she looks to be a real sweetie!
C & C's Mom 07-16-2006, 09:04 AM Awww, what a doll she is Lisa. :)
MISS LISA 07-16-2006, 10:02 AM Thanks Marilyn!
She met a lot of people yesterday at the adoption day - but still no leads. She is such an AWESOME dog.. I hope someone sees that soon, she is getting attached to Jill (BratWorst)..
Susan 07-16-2006, 02:19 PM She is stunning, a very beautiful girl! Her paw pads are huge! :p: Do you know or have a guess on her weight?
Jill, if she is bonding with you already, then I can bet you are too. When Twyla finds her perfect home, my shoulders are ready for you. I leaned on others when Moxie left. It's fresh in my mind how it is a happy day and sad day all at once. Thank you for fostering her! Just a thought: If you or someone you know has children, getting a couple of pics of her licking a kid or calmly sitting with one, anything like that, might help showcase how gentle she is. Someone who is terrified of rotties won't want her and they wouldn't be the right home, but someone who is knowledgeable or just a little unsure might be swayed by "gentle" pics.
Susan
MISS LISA 07-17-2006, 09:58 AM Aww.. thanks Susan! I hope Jill reads that.
She weighs 68lbs - and I think the gentle pics would be a GREAT idea!!
HutchaMucha 07-17-2006, 10:21 AM I met her this weekend, and she is a complete doll that will make someone very happy! I can't wait to find out where she is going.
BratWorst 07-17-2006, 11:26 AM She is the sweetest thing and yes Susan this is going to be a tough one. We have certainly bonded and I will be looking for that shoulder. :) Thanks!!! ;) My granddaughters love her and will be sad to see her go also. I will get some pics of them with Twyla, that is a great idea but she has a tendency to try to grab a ball when you have it in your hand and may accidentally nip so I am a little concerned about her being around smaller children. She does not do it on purpose and we are working on teaching her to be patient but it is still a little worrisome. She also loves to bite at water when it is splashed at her but she gets too close and doesn't pay attention to your hands. She may be better off with a family with no small children.
I broke down the other day when she was with me and she had to spend all day, from 9 in the morning until about 8 at night in the heat, hanging around auto repair shops and driving and driving. She was soooooo good. I had many people comment on what a sweet quiet dog she was. I was so impressed, had it been either of my two I don't know that they would have done as well. She has been so many places with me and has never been anything but well behaved and sweet. She would make someone a great companion.
I had little Lucy with me for a few days and she was so sweet to her. She layed down on the floor and let her jump and nip at her. When we were at Petco she was a little hot and tired and let Lucy know not to mess with her but I was impressed with how gentle she can be.
She deserves a quiet home where she can get a little bit of exercise, she's not too high energy. She also needs to be able to eat a bone without having to go bury it. :) She still won't eat one??? Maybe never will but certainly not with my two around. :D
Let's all say all the prayers we can that she finds that perfect home. It is going to get harder and harder every day for me to let her go!!!!!!:( Thanks everyone for your support!!!
MISS LISA 07-17-2006, 11:32 AM Just a couple pics of her.. Becky took a bunch at Petco, so once she emails them to me I'll post those as well.

Susan 07-17-2006, 02:59 PM She is the sweetest thing and yes Susan this is going to be a tough one. [snip]
Moxie was exactly the same way. She would grab at the ball and an inadvertent grazing of teeth and hand worried me too. It wasn't nipping or biting, but that over excited grab can result in what feels like a bite or looks like a nip to a little one. Training to wait for the ball will help eventually. Because Moxie underwent HW treatment, we had to stop playing ball. My "great" idea for continuing to work on the behavior was that I would work on taking treats gently or sitting first for them, and the like. Good idea, but of no use. Moxie already would do that for treats. Her grabbing behavior was limited to tennis balls. She was adopted by a very lab-savvy family. They do have one or two younger children, but no toddlers. They also have an older teenaged son who would be playing with Moxie a lot more than anyone else. I felt 100% comfortable with the situation, but if you had asked me to describe the ideal home, I would have said no young children. For Moxie, I would have been wrong, but all the other positives like another dog, an older teen, and lab-smart people evened out the picture; I would not have wanted Moxie to go to home with only small kids. I'm not trying to turn this into a Moxie post; I'm trying to share the reasoning I used and Dani used that took into account all the variables. Everything I just said might end up applying to Twyla too!
She'll find the perfect home!
Susan
MISS LISA 07-20-2006, 09:39 AM Bump for Twyla!
BratWorst 07-21-2006, 10:59 AM Here are some new pics of Twyla with my granddaughters Gemini and Jade. They absolutely love her and it's pretty apparent
from the pics that she loves them too.
She loves basketballs and soccer balls....and oh yeah, squeaky stuffed balls. :)

*SUSAN* Were these what you had in mind? ;) Thanks!!!!
Susan 07-21-2006, 11:28 AM These pics are perfect! Twyla is beautiful, such a ham, and rub my belly hound. I think even one pic with your grandchildren says it all. (Your granddaughters are beautiful by the way, and I love the expression Jade gives you in the last pic!). I also like how the grandkids are older, not toddlers. All the right messages are sent with these pics.
I already thought Twyla was beautiful and fun, but when I saw her in these last photos, I realized I was grinning. I am really glad you are fostering her. This girl is going someone an incredible pet, companion, and best bud. By fostering, you have bought her the time she needs to find that home.
Susan
HutchaMucha 07-21-2006, 01:49 PM Good thoughts for Twyla!!! Great pictures.
