MANY great dogs there right now - all sizes, colors and shapes. This is a kill shelter. They don't post dates - just as they fill up, they have to put others down, so please don't wait on helping one if you see someone who catches your eye! Most of these have been on the site for weeks, so their time is drawing to an end - even the puppies have been there weeks to a month! I posted a few besides the labs/mixes - but you can see almost all are labs / mixes :(

Chocaholic 06-06-2005, 02:26 PM Oh they're all beautiful! That dudley is my favorite....if only I could go get one. If someone is interested, I'm not too far from Mercer County and could help pull one and transport...
Hallesmom 06-06-2005, 02:37 PM And the dudley is young - 8 months or so - adopted 2 months ago from that shelter and taken back because they weren't giving the dog enough attention. She is listed as a lab/golden mix?
The black male 3rd from the bottom is listed as 'older' - says he is super sweet. His chances are probably VERY slim of being adopted from there.
The chocolate is relatively new - sweet, but killed a chicken, so no farm animals...... :)
miskeira 06-06-2005, 02:55 PM I'm too far to pull, but I can help if a transport is put together thru Michigan.
LindaAcup 06-06-2005, 05:50 PM I can bring them into LOLIN if anyone anywhere can foster......
Ownedby2Labs 06-06-2005, 08:22 PM Ugh, makes me sick to see them. I know Donna works so hard to help this shelter- I think she is still a contact for them. I pulled from here this winter and had transported to CT. Got a Leonburger out of here. The couple who adopted him sent me an update saying they felt like they had won the lottery and he was the best puppy ever (at 5 months of age he weighed about 50lbs!)
This shelter is soooo nice to work with, but not close to anything. They will transport up to meet Kyle (who drives weekly, charges $100 a dog) Requires quarentine.
Donna will help get anyone you want pulled, vetted, spayed/neutered and on its way to a transport. She even hooked me up with a boarding place at only $50 a week.
LindaAcup 06-06-2005, 09:09 PM That's a wonderful "deal", very nice. Come on somebody....fostering isn't bad, it's wonderful. :)
Chocaholic 06-07-2005, 07:21 AM Linda, I know we've discussed this before.......I'd LOVE to foster, but the timing is very bad for me right now (32 weeks pregnant). After baby's here I will definitely get more involved. I'd be willing to keep one of these beauties for a few days or so, but a longer term foster just isn't a good idea right now. It really sux because I'm only about 30 minutes from Harrodsburg...I wish I could be of more assistance :(
LindaAcup 06-07-2005, 07:24 AM OH I understand completely. Just take care of you & baby and we'll all worry about the doggies. ;)
ConMurph 06-07-2005, 08:17 AM Conner, my alpha a-hole (I mean this as affectionately as possible), won't let me foster, but since I am in Ohio, there might be a good chance that I can help with a transport. PM me if you need a transport leg in the Cincy region for any of these. I can do anything, but foster...
Hopefully one day after we see a behaviorist and get Conner straightened out, I can try again...
Susan 06-07-2005, 09:31 AM Is there anyone who can look at any of these dogs and make an informed assessment of temperment? I looked at this thread and at the Mercer petfinder site, but I don't see much info on them, other than they're desperate. Oh ... and they're breaking my heart.
Susan--who has no chickens, but does have:
Abbey
Sam
Dex and Medic
Hallesmom 06-07-2005, 02:24 PM Susan - I will say if you call the shelter and describe the dog Marsha will tell you what she knows - but they do not temperment test there. I know a volunteer but she only goes there on Fridays gnapier@earthlink.net Geri is her name. Maybe someone on here who is close can get there an asess them.
Most of my fosters come from this shelter, but I am already committed to 'Dozer' who is coming up this weekend (not on the site anymore). They haven't sent us any aggressive dogs, and are great to work with.
Bradysmom 06-07-2005, 02:53 PM That's a wonderful "deal", very nice. Come on somebody....fostering isn't bad, it's wonderful. :)
ok, I will foster the chocolate if we can get some information on him. Lets get him out. He looks very scared to me....
Bradysmom 06-07-2005, 02:54 PM oops double
LindaAcup 06-07-2005, 09:01 PM Kristen, can you call and see about the temperament? I have an email in to see how we can get the Choco vetted and to you. Oh, did I say, you're the best!!!
Nicole K, any help &/or advice would be greatly appreciated. :)
LindaAcup 06-07-2005, 09:07 PM OH, I love the older black boy, too. Anyone else??? :)
AddieGirl 06-08-2005, 07:20 AM Yea, Kristen! You've been wanting to foster so maybe this guy is the one!! Paws & fingers crossed.....and lots of prayers for all of these babies. That dudley looks so huggable!
Bradysmom 06-08-2005, 07:25 AM Ok, I will try to get in touch with the shelter today and see about his temperment etc. I am at work, so give me some time. Not sure I can do it here, may have to wait until I get home. Is there anyone in the area that can check them out too?
Chocaholic 06-08-2005, 07:26 AM I GOTTA stay outta this thread!!! That dudley is breaking my heart......I'm having a baby in 7 weeks....I'm having a baby in 7 weeks....I'm having a baby in 7 weeks.....I gotta keep telling myself that or I'll drive down there tonight and bring her home :D Good luck to any and all who foster these guys. I hope they all find great homes!!
Bradysmom 06-08-2005, 10:21 AM Ok, I only had time to drop an email to them. Hope they can get back to me via email. I don't have phone time right now without everyone hearing me at work. Hope it goes well.. Anyone else have any luck at this place?
Bradysmom 06-08-2005, 01:46 PM Here is what I sent to them and their reply:

Bradysmom 06-08-2005, 02:09 PM bump
Chocaholic 06-08-2005, 02:11 PM I guess as long as you don't have chickens, then he's the dog for you! :D
Seriously, I hope he finds a home real soon. He and all the other dogs listed there. Good luck!!
Bradysmom 06-08-2005, 02:27 PM They just told me that Lab Rescue in CT is already working on him. Way to go ladies!!!! :cheers2:
Labfan 06-08-2005, 03:35 PM Thank you to CT Lab Rescue for working on helping the chocolate lab :)
Has anyone contacted Michelle May, the director of Ky Lab Rescue, to see if she can help any other labs at this shelter ?
Here's the link below. The rescue is based in Winchester KY and is a 1 hr and 20 minute drive from Harrodsburg KY according to mapsonus.com

autumnsmom 06-09-2005, 08:47 AM The "older black" was reclaimed!!
I'm trying to find out about Freeway and the yellow/golden mix.
Bradysmom 06-10-2005, 12:20 PM Any news from this shelter on getting anyone out?
LindaAcup 06-10-2005, 01:32 PM Kristen,
Have you contacted the shelter directly? Will you please and get a total and I will call them with the $$$ info. If you would take care of everything from your end, it would be wonderful. I really appreciate it, otherwise, too many cooks in the kitchen and it could end up losing a dog in the making of the meal. :)
he is about 4 yr old, and is a great boy! Please get with her on $$, etc.
Linda,
Please call the shelter.

Geri,
Sonja will be having a transport either the 18th or 24th.
The dog will need health certs and vaccs and not have KC.
I'll let you ladies work out the details directly with each other. If you
need me to hold the dog, let me know.

Bradysmom 06-10-2005, 01:40 PM Linda, I did contact them and he told me that CT Lab Rescue was working on it.... what should I do now?
LindaAcup 06-10-2005, 01:59 PM OH, I'm sorry sweetie, I should have read more of the prior posts......I've been busier than a one legged man in a butt kickin' contest. ;)
You might try contacting them one more time as I think they are sending the Choco up with that rescue.
Ask for the manager when you call and tell them you are with Love of Labs in IN and Linda asked you to call and double check on the boy since we don't want him left behind.
If you have any problems, email me and I'll call. If the rescue wants him, I guess that's fine, we can always find you another one, right? Or if you're really in love with him, we'll fight for him. ;) Let me know.
Thank you so, you are the best and you know there's a special place in Heaven for ya. :harp:
LindaAcup 06-10-2005, 02:01 PM Oooopppppsssss, I just read this:
You can go ahead and pay his adoption fee. It will be $50 and then $15 for
the HWT if you want it. Mail check, payable to Mercer Co HS to Rita Bentley
269 Harlow Ln Harrodsburg, KY 40330 -or- paypal to bentley@searnet.com
This will ensure his safety. He will be adopted to you. I am waiting for
conf. when the transport is going, next weekend, or theh following. I have
a friend that could hold him until then, just gotta ask. I will as soon as
I fiind out when the transport is. Thank you so much!!!!!!!
Geri
I will send $$$ now. I will PM you Geri's number so you can confirm the transport and what all we need to do now, if that's OK?
Bradysmom 06-10-2005, 02:10 PM That is great. Is Geri with CT Lab rescue? I have never done this before so do I need to contact anyone there as well to let them know I will foster him?
Hallesmom 06-10-2005, 02:14 PM Kristen - Geri is not with CT Lab Rescue -she is a volunteer at Mercer Animal Shelter. She emailed me yesterday about the chocolate and told me 'Kristen in CT with the lab rescue sounds great and is fostering him' - I think it is you :) She mentioned a CT lab rescue - but that may have been confusion since you and Linda are so far apart it may have gotten confused. So please do check in with Geri to make sure on who is taking the choco so he doesn't get missed.
If you have any problems let me know - I will be around on and off tonight and the rest of the weekend. Good luck!!
Bradysmom 06-10-2005, 02:17 PM Ok, when i get her info from LInda I will call her. So there is a transport set up for a few of them? This is great. I am not with CT Lab rescue either, I just said I would foster this guy if we can get him out. So then do I have to let someone know to be on the lookout for a permanent home (if I can let him go :) )?? Again, sorry for all of the questions, this is my first time doing this.. I will have access to the puter all weekend so I will keep checking back for the contact info and any other...
Hallesmom 06-10-2005, 02:22 PM I thought you were fostering him for Linda of LOLIN? If so, she will put him on petfinder, and you can search locally for a home for him (he will go quick, I am sure!) If you aren't fostering for LOLIN, let me know and I am sure I can help hook you up with another rescue :)
Bradysmom 06-10-2005, 02:25 PM Oh, ok. I didn't realize that. I am a little confused as you can tell! Can't wait to see him. I hope he is good with Brady and everything... :) any advice would be much appreciated from you long time foster parents!! :cheers2:
Bradysmom 06-10-2005, 02:28 PM I just left a message on Geri's cell phone with my number and let her know that I am working with Linda of LOLIN and that we are just making sure that the chocolate guy gets in on that transport.
LindaAcup 06-10-2005, 02:34 PM Sorry I haven't been much help. Feel free to email me if I don't see it on here, lindaacup52@aol.com.
Bradysmom 06-10-2005, 02:41 PM Thanks Linda. I am just new to this rescue fostering thing, so I need a little hand holding through the first one... :) hope I am not too much of a pain. I will keep you posted if I hear from her.
Thanks everyone. Hope we can save him!!! :cheers2:
LindaAcup 06-10-2005, 02:44 PM Kristin,
If you would like a rescue closer to you to help you, you can have Sherry help you, you do NOT have to go through me, as it will be a little difficult being long distance. I absolutely will NOT be hurt or angry, you do what you feel most comfortable with.
autumnsmom 06-10-2005, 02:44 PM Bradysmom just ASK..ASK whatever you want to..don't worry about "bugging" anyone or feeling stupid. We are here for you, while Linda is butt kicking with one leg LOL..we'll try to help you out.
It is CONFUSING, especially when different states are involved. Don't give it a second thought...you are doing a wonderful thing by fostering!!! Good luck! Can't wait to hear about how it all turned out when I get back!
Deneen

No way! I am very happy to be working with you. I know we will figure it out, just please excuse my many questions!

Deneen
Thanks Deneen... I am excited for my first foster. Where are you going?
Hallesmom 06-10-2005, 05:07 PM Nope, I agree with Deneen! We just want to help, there are NO dumb questions :) Ok, so maybe we will giggle a little, but come on, that isn't so bad ;) And since the rescue I foster for works a lot with Mercer/Geri that is why I am popping in trying to help. When Geri mentioned a rescue in CT - but then mentioned Kristen by name in CT, I thought things had gotten confused. LOL I certainly was! LOL!!
Bradysmom 06-10-2005, 09:50 PM I am so excited. hope we can get it all together. I will certainly be asking questions, don't you all worry! Just please guide me in the right direction! I haven't heard back from Geri yet, so I don't even know this guys name yet. what shall we call him, I think he deserves a name? Keep your fingers and paws crossed everyone!
Kris
LindaAcup 06-10-2005, 09:54 PM He's your foster, so choose a name for him. :) You ought to have one perk anyway, right??? ;)
Bradysmom 06-11-2005, 04:37 PM we will work on thinking up a name for him. :)
AddieGirl 06-12-2005, 06:47 PM :bounce: :bounce:   Yea, Kristen!!! I can't wait to hear how it all goes and what you decide to call this lucky baby! Prayers that Brady enjoys sharing you with another--I'm sure everything will be fine. Your first foster--woo hoo!!!
Bradysmom 06-13-2005, 07:46 AM I left a message at the shelter this morning. I was letting them know that Linda at LOLIN was paypalling the fee for him and all we needed was a transport for him. so hoping all goes well, paws and fingers crossed! Thanks everyone!!! :)
LindaAcup 06-13-2005, 05:34 PM I received confirmation that they picked up the $$$, but would like to hear more myself....:)
Hallesmom 06-13-2005, 07:40 PM They don't set up transport - you will need to coordinate the transport. See if Geri or if someone she knows can pull and get him going (or we have a member near there who may be able to help?) but it has to be set up. Hope that helps! Linda, you have coordinated before, right?
Chocaholic 06-14-2005, 06:57 AM Depending on when the transport will be, I might be able to help since I'm so close....we're really busy right now with baby showers and such, but I'd love to help if we can :D
Bradysmom 06-14-2005, 07:07 AM OKay, I have another call in to Geri, Linda have you had any luck? Yes Hallesmom, this is my first, so I have no idea how to even begin to set up a transport! Can anyone help?
Bradysmom 06-14-2005, 07:08 AM Depending on when the transport will be, I might be able to help since I'm so close....we're really busy right now with baby showers and such, but I'd love to help if we can :D
Thanks Cindy! I hope we can get him here...
LindaAcup 06-14-2005, 10:41 AM NO, I have never coordinated a tranport, but I am sure Punky will be willing to coordinate, but Geri said they were sending the dog either this weekend or next depending on the transpsort, I assumed she has one set to go to the NE.
Bradysmom 06-14-2005, 10:46 AM Great. I have not heard back from her, so I will call again tomorrow if there is no word. I just need to know when he is coming so I can be there and be prepared for him! Also, brady eats Wellness lite, is that ok for this guy, or should I go with the Wellness fish and potato or what?? Thanks!
Hallesmom 06-14-2005, 06:43 PM NO, I have never coordinated a tranport, but I am sure Punky will be willing to coordinate, but Geri said they were sending the dog either this weekend or next depending on the transpsort, I assumed she has one set to go to the NE.
Linda- you may be totally right - don't listen to me! I am trying to help and probably confusing the situation more :bang:
LindaAcup 06-14-2005, 07:39 PM NO Sherry, I get very confused anymore, so you may be right......I have to recheck my email. Bless your heart.....no problem.
abbychick 06-15-2005, 12:37 AM Yayyy Kristen!!! I'm so happy for you. Congrats on your first foster. Hope the little guy gets out your way soon. Have you thought up a name yet?
Bradysmom 06-15-2005, 07:50 AM I think we may want to meet him first before giving him a name. I am sure his personality will name him for us! Still no word from Geri, I will call today to see about the transport.... I am getting excited and nervous!!! Linda, have you heard anything????
LindaAcup 06-15-2005, 08:07 AM NO, and I'd like to know what's going on, too. They took the $$, so I am assuming he is safe, but still.......Do you have their email addys?
Bradysmom 06-15-2005, 08:11 AM I think so, let me check if I do, I will send an email. Otherwise, I only have Geri's number.
Ok, I did, i emailed them as well. Lets see what we get.
LindaAcup 06-15-2005, 08:17 AM Also, Marsha Miller is the director, I know she told you to contact Geri, but maybe you could give her a call and tell her we don't know anything yet and we NEED to know something.....859 734-5154. Thanks!
Bradysmom 06-15-2005, 08:18 AM Sure.. let me see if I get anything back from Geri this morning. If not, I will call Marsha again.
Bradysmom 06-15-2005, 12:38 PM Here is what I heard from Geri:
Kristen,
Transport wll be next weekend. The little guy had an upset stomach and some
funky stool, so the doc sent over some meds on Mon and he's doing MUCH
better. Normal stool, no upset stomach. So, next week would be better for
his case so he has his full course of meds. Please send us your pick up
information so Sonja can get things coordinated.
Geri
I sent her all of my info and I guess we just wait until someone contacts me as to where and when to pick him up... I may take Monday off from work so that I can be around for the day for him... Hope he is feeling better and we can't wait to meet him!
Shantis Mom 06-15-2005, 12:48 PM This is so exciting! Glad things are going so smoothly!
Hallesmom 06-15-2005, 02:46 PM I am so glad to hear this! Woohoo!
autumnsmom 06-26-2005, 09:34 AM Is this still happening? I don't see the choc listed anymore did he make it out?
Deneen
zoezoe 06-26-2005, 11:54 AM I got an email from a gal who pulled a chocolate female from a kill shelter in KY last weekend. She's holding on to her as we don't have room for her right now. If anyone wants to contact her and work out something to get this dog to them, let me know and I'll get her contact info to you.
autumnsmom 06-26-2005, 05:28 PM I forgot all about this thread they've all been urgent since before my vacation. Sandy I believe the choc Linda was pulling is a male, I could be wrong??
I have a black female coming in 2 weeks but I'm trying to pull the Dudley, I can NOT believe he is still there. I think I'll have HIM (they have it wrong) placed before the black female from WV gets here..PROVIDING the tranport to me fills ASAP. I'm trying to find a coordinator (Penny is away this weekend). Shelter to me is only 6 hrs hopefully I'll get it filled quickly.
Bradysmom 06-28-2005, 07:11 AM Yes, the chocolate was pulled and is safe in CT with me! See the thread Maggie Mae in GC... I will have pics this afternoon. She is a doll, can't believe noone wanted her. She came Sat. am from KY to CT after being spayed on Friday morning, and what a trooper she is!
