Hello all,

My daughter rescued Misty, a 77 pound female black lab, from the pound a month ago. Last night when I came home, she was favoring her left rear leg. No one can recall if she injured herself yesterday. I Took her to the vet this am, and she says it's a cruciate problem, put her on Rimadyl twice a day, and will follow up in one week. Plan: rest.. no running.. out on a lead only.. no running in the back yard, and keep our fingers crossed. One week from now if still a problem back to the vet for anesthesia to xray her and test her leg.

Any thoughts or your :2cents: would be appreciated. Hopefully, I'll be able to share good news in the near future.

It's scary to think the new member of our famly may need surgery.. Heck, even the cats look a little worried about her :)

Reach me at larryray@nospamoptonline.net if you wish...just remove "nospam" from my address..

Thank you for your time.

Hi Larry -- sorry to hear about Misty's leg. My sis-in-law's lab had to have surgery for the ACL problem. He suffered a lot until the surgery, now you'd never know he had a problem. I hope Misty heals up w/o surgery, though. Keep us posted!

P.S. -- the topic related to this you started in the General Chat area has been moved to the Health section -- I thought it might get more attention there...

Hi Larry,

Be really careful with Rimadyl and Labradors, for some reason they don't tolerate it as well as other dogs. One of the vets where I go had put my lab on it and never checked his liver enzymes. A week or two later we went back and he wasn't feeling well and we saw the other vet and he did blood work and his enzymes were all out of wack and he removed him from the Rimadyl immediately.

Rimadyl works great but you have to be really careful with it.

Good luck.
