View Full Version : Molly needs a home
humminbird 05-04-2007, 06:45 PM Most of you know that we are looking to rehome our black lab Molly. We are working with the Lowcountry Lab Rescue (SC). If you or someone you know would be interested in giving her a forever home, please contact San Mitchum with LLR at 843-572-9155.
Molly is a black lab with brown eyes and tons of energy. She needs a home with lots of room to run and someone who can work with her daily.
Molly is spayed and up to date on her shots and heartworm negative as of April. She is actually a very loving dog, gets along with people of all ages, and we haven't had any problems with other dogs either. She likes to chase the cat (more in play I believe). She is completely black with brown eyes. Right now I would estimate that she is about 60lbs or so. She is a chewer (no problems with chewing on "our" stuff
in the house-but problem with things in the backyard) and a digger (want to
see my backyard?! Haha!). She will follow you from room to room because she
does not want to be alone and I believe she has a case of separation
anxiety. She is also a very jealous dog when it comes to attention and such.
We have never had any problems with biting or any aggressiveness--however lately she has been playing really really rough with our boxer (i'm not sure if this would be considered true agressiveness or just really rough play.)
You can find our story/situation under the thread "Am I a bad Mommy?"
Thanks everyone!
Jess
Melody 05-04-2007, 07:21 PM Is this your advertisement for the dog? Just a suggestion--can you take out the comment about playing "really really rough"? That would scare me away, and there's no reason to think this is aggression, so I don't think you need to mention it.
Also, by saying that the dog is a chewer and a digger... how often is Molly left by herself in the backyard? I wouldn't mention that either.
Actually... let me just rewrite it for you... lol...
Molly is a black lab, about 60 lbs and xxx years old, with brown eyes and tons of energy. She is very loving and gets along with people of all ages. She is being rehomed because her current family does not have time to take care of her, but she will do well in a home with someone who can work with her daily and give her lots of exercise. <xxx> She loves attention, and will follow you around the house like a little shadow.
If you feel like you HAVE to say something about the chewing and digging, I'd put it in the brackets <xxx> and say something like this: She is still a puppy in many ways, so expect her to do some puppy-like things (i.e., chewing or digging in the backyard) if she does not get enough exercise.
Lazylabs 05-04-2007, 07:31 PM Molly sounds sweet, wish I could help. Sounds like all she needs is someone home during the day to work out her issues.

Thats good...I have to say that it reminds me of the book "Marley and Me" when he talks about the translations of dog advertisements, lol.
humminbird 05-07-2007, 06:41 AM Well, it wasn't exactly an "advertisement' but then again I guess thats how it would be taken, huh? Thanks for "rewriting" it for me....but I do believe in being honest....the chewing/digging/extremely rough play....but what you wrote was good too. So here is a new version of "molly needs a home".....
Molly is a black lab, about 60 lbs and 16 months old, with brown eyes and tons of energy. She is very loving and gets along with people of all ages. Better? ;-) and no matter how much excercise she gets she still will chew/dig in the backyard. she and our boxer are out there as much as possible during the day when we're home...esp since they are crated most of the other time b/c we're not home.
Anyway...thanks for the input....

First off, goodluck finding her a good home. I think its great your taking such effort, a responsibility many refuse to take.
Now about the exercise. I've noticed my labs don't lose one ounce of energy playing with each other. I have to do planned exercise with them to wear them out. Even their training sessions wear them out more than playing together. I think it has to do with the focusing on me for training or on me/toy for playtime. So I really think your lab will do just fine in a home where someone can give her that time.
Once again, goodluck!

Yes! I like it. I can understand wanting to be honest in what you say about the dog, but I still think the negative can be put in a positive light. For instance, if someone wants Molly to be his only dog and has lots of time to put into taking care of her, who knows how many of those behaviors would remain in the long run??
In Scout's advertisement, the person said that Scout "is a sweet, submissive girl. She attempts to get along with everyone and enjoys the company of other dogs who like to play. She is obviously very much a puppy at 8 months, so expect the typical Labrador puppy behaviors."
I was nervous about seeing her, given the latter, but the beginning part sounded good enough to give it a shot.
Have we seen this typical Lab puppy behaviors? Not really. Scout loves chewing her toys, and she suffers from some separation anxiety if we leave her out of the crate, so we just crate her while we're gone and give her lots of toys and exercise.
In other words, she's a good fit for us, and behaviors the foster mom saw haven't really been present with us as the owners. Dogs sometimes do better than they are expected, but if the ads sound too negative no one will give them a shot.
humminbird 05-24-2007, 08:55 AM Well, Molly has offically been gone from our home for a week tomorrow!! I know this sounds really really bad but we are so much happier now!! Our house is soooo much calmer! One dog is enough for my household!!
Just wanted to let ya'll know so you weren't left hanging!!

SablesMom 05-24-2007, 07:58 PM Is she in foster or adopted?
Sending good thoughts for a good transition for Molly.
I'm not sure how to quite put this but respectively I'm not
sure that coming on a rescue board and being glad to have
her officially gone now for a week and being so happy that she
is gone without mention of hoping Molly is
hopefully equally happy, or eventually will be... is something that is well
recieved.
Shaqpuppy 05-24-2007, 08:15 PM  I'm so happy you are overjoyed at getting rid of her  Please do not have children as they take time and patience.
Melody 05-24-2007, 08:32 PM being so happy that she
is gone without mention of hoping Molly is

It is a bit disturbing, but for Molly's sake hopefully she is in a place where they have the right temperament for a lab, and they can give her the time and love to become a lovely pet.

yes I hope that Molly is somewhere that she can
be what she is... a Labrador.

Ah, well, I imagine Molly shares your joy, no matter what "gone from our home" means.

MellowYellow 05-24-2007, 09:20 PM I don't think some of the comments are fair. She had posted the trouble she was having and the conflicted feelings about rehoming Molly. Molly was a dog she found and took in, but just was not a good match for her family. She came here looking for advice and wanted to do right by Molly and find a home for her--safely. Part of the problem was the stress that was being put on her household, so why wouldn't she be relieved when Molly had been rehomed?

I for one have no problem with her seeking advice and the fact she concluded Molly needed a new home. The way she announced that she is now rid of Molly is appalling.

It was the presentation of the annoucement of being
glad she is gone of her... this is a rescue section.
With respect no one is discrediting her for her attempt to
place molly safely.
On that subject where is Molly?
hopefully the site http://www.lowcountrylabrescue.org/andbz.cfm?intended=andbz.cfm
has perhaps not updated adoptions/happy tails yet? as there is
only 1 dog on there, a yellow one, not Molly.
On the available dogs section there are no dogs named Molly,
so perhaps her name has been changed and hopefully she
is one of the labs on the page, and hopefully Molly has a new
home or will soon have one.
humminbird 05-25-2007, 10:52 AM I feel like being a real witch to some of the comments made, but I will keep the peace. I'm sorry my post came across wrong...of course I hope Molly finds her "dream" home, but I AM happy she is no longer ours. Sorry if that offends anyone. The thread, "Am I a bad Mommy" might shed some light on some of the questions/wonderings here.
I do not know why LLR has not put her on the website. She is in foster as far as I know.
Again, I'm sorry if I offended anyone or if you took my post the wrong way. I did rescue her back in Sept when she followed me home. I could have easily left her to fend for herself. Over time, with our lives changing and our schedules becoming hectic, Molly was just not the type of dog we could handle. Not everyone is suited for a lab. I know that Molly will find a great home with lots of love and room to run!:D

Shaqpuppy 05-25-2007, 12:04 PM Actually, I just went back and read all of your previous posts  Sounds to me like everything was going pretty good until you brought the boxer home. Maybe the boxer is a better dog, coming from pure lines ya know  Happy to hear that you cannot afford training for Molly but the boxer was able to go through training and passed with flying colors. I could go on, but I'm done. I'm sure Molly is just as happy to be away from you.
humminbird 05-25-2007, 01:42 PM Just forget I ever said anything ok!? All I wanted to do was update those following this thread to let them know that Molly is/was on her way to a new home. Instead, it seems as if I started an uproar. Everyone has an opinion and is entitled to it of course. So please excuse me if my intended message didn't come across the way I intended. Thats what happens when fingers do the talking.....again, I apologize!

Awww...I'm glad you are so much happier. It sounds like Molly was like a bad yeast infection and it's great that she is gone.
I'm sure she's loving her new life away from you. It's a win/win. :)
