This shelter is just awful with the amount of labs that come in....
All of these labs are available and in immediate danger...Just thought I'd post to put some feelers out! http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/LA40.html

Yellow Labrador Retriever Size: Large
Age: Young
Gender: Female
ID: held over-kennel 7

\HELD OVER...This is one beautiful dog. She is very shy but warms up well. She weighs about 60 pounds and is very lean. She looks to be about 2 years old or so. Labs are very devoted dogs and for them to be here after knowing o home is heartbreaking. Please save a life today...ADOPT A LAB.

Age: Adult
Gender: Male
ID: held over-kennel 8

Notes: HELD OVER...This boy is ready to be your pal. He is full grown and about 60 pounds. He was calm for a lab and he had a beautiful shiny coat. Labs are very devoted dogs and being here is always very rough on them. Please find it in your heart to rescue this great boy.

Age: Young
Gender: Male
ID: held over-kennel 11

Notes: HELD OVER... Midnight was owner surrendered and is 9 months old. He LOVES water which makes it hard for the kennel workers when washing out the kennels. He barks and tries to bite the water and just has a good old time. He is the perfect age to begin training. Please find it in your heart to adopt a shelter lab they often get over looked.

Yellow Labrador Retriever Size: Medium
Age: Young
Gender: Female
ID: kennel 6A

Notes: Another loving Labby that has ended up at Roicy. This poor girl was probably a hunting dog that got dumped by her former owners. She is a beautiful young Yellow Lab that would make a loyal and loving companion. Labs train very well and are very family oriented dogs. They love their humans and cherish the love that is given to them. Sadly, Labs have a hard time making it out of Roicy. Give this girl her holiday miracle and give her a chance to be a part of your family today.

Chocolate Labrador Retriever Size: Large
Age: Young
Gender: Female
ID: kennel 3B

Notes: This young female Chocolate Lab was super sweet but very timid in her kennel. She looks like she may have been abused but still looks at people for promise in her life. She is a stunning dog that would make a great pet for a family or single. Labs are very loyal and obedient dogs. At this age she has gone through her puppy phase and is more easily trainable. Giver her a chance to be a part of your family and give her the loving home she so deserves.

A great rescue group may be pulling 4 of the Labs today and bringing them up North. Another local rescue group is taking 1 Lab. The Chocolate girl - Latte Girl 3B is still not rescued or is Yellow Lab - Playful 6. I am trying to see if these two can be rescued. Also a Blk Lab/Shepherd - Boots 5 . If you want to help please email volunteers at - roicyvolunteers@gmail.com

GoldenBoy 9 who was pulled on Nov 27 from Roicy (who looks like a brother to the yellow Lab in the photo) is just starting his HW treatment today. Have the other labs that were going to NY from Roicy been transported yet?

I am still waiting to get GB 9 to his final destination. We have to get through HW treatment first.

I think there are two one is finishing treatment for pneumonia and one I believe has kennel cough. Where is GoldenBoy 9 going? I had the 2 puppies ready to go on transport and they turned out to have pneumonia and not kennel cough, so their foster has really worked hard in getting them better. I feel so bad for these dogs that are in shelters picking up or maybe still having these sicknesses. I am going to find out asap regarding Labs at Roicy, just like to double check on who got rescued.

When GB is over HW treatment he has a spot waiting for him in a MO rescue. However, we may have two families interested in adopting him. One is in NY, the other is in MA, but it's not definite.

I also spoke to the woman at the Louisana Vet's office. She said someone there has fallen in love with him. I told her he is up for adoption, but I will only let him go to a family who comes highly recommended. I don't want him to wind up back at a shelter. Right now he needs to get through the treatment. Keep him in your prayers.

I've heard nothing but positive things about him. Well, he does climb chainlink fences if you're on the other side, but he comes when you call him!:D

Praying for Golden Boy 9 to get through his Heartworm treatment easily.

He IS A HEARTBREAKER.

I am sure LOTS of people will want to adopt him.

Glad to see you here online!!

Happy Holidays.

What is going on at Roicy that they have so many dogs in need? Many of them are very sick, too.

People need to take responsibility and stop all of this unwanted breeding and throwing away such precious animals!

Sorry........it's frustrating. I hear people complain about not wanting legislation, problems with enforcing, and reputable breeders suffering.
Believe me, I have friends who are breeders and I love them dearly. It's just that at some point someone has to step up and help this to end. I know it won't end, but I like dreaming.

I would like to know WHAT evidence they have to make such a claim??? Painting a group of people as evil uncaring folks, just to try and pull on the heart strings of others is NOT a very responible tract of action.
Most HUNTERS whom have dogs and spent the time to care for and train their dogs have NO desire to 'dump' them.

I think sometimes many of us just get frustrated. I was frustrated when I posted this morning. We need everyone to come together to make difference.

Brad,
I don't think this person was trying to paint a group of people (hunters) as evil and uncaring. Being in rescue we see many labradors come into the shelters with their hunter orange collars still on. My husband and I are both avid hunters and we know that most hunters are responsible lab owners. Unfortunatley many hunters in "our neck of the woods" aren't exactly what you would consider "responsible". After duck season is over lab's come flooding into the shelters. Granted, most of the dogs are very poorly trained if trained at all. The "rednecks" around here think a good bird dog is born knowing how to retrieve and once they realize how much work goes into training, well, they get dumped. Well trained, well-bred bird dogs DO NOT end up in the shelter. I would go as far to say that responsible hunters are some of the best lab owners around!!! :p:

AggieBri, I don't doubt what you say at all, but one more thing for clarification...

Being in rescue we see many labradors come into the shelters with their hunter orange collars still on.

Duck dogs, don't go around wearing hunter orange collars.
