I just brought home my new baby black lab (Luka). I am feeding him one cup of dry food in the AM and one cup at night.
I find that he gobbles through it basically without breathing in between bites.. should I be feeding him more? and more times a day?
Please give me your input, this is my first Big dog and I am not used to their type of eating/feeding behaviors :)

What does your breeder recommend? He/she may be your best knowledge source since they have a full understanding of their lines.
you should be feeding 3x per day at this age.
where did you get him from-the breeder should have given yhou instructions, at the very least.
if you didnt get him from a breeder, get a book, fast, and see what to do.

Surely your breeder sent you home with a packet of instructions?
If not, as a guideline, my 8 week old puppies leave here eating approx. 3 cups per day divided into three meals.

Mine are normally ~2.5 C a day at 8 wks but my lines are pretty moderate too. Your breeder is the best to ask these things.

I'm a fan of feeding puppies 3-4x a day.
At this age, I would guess 1/2-3/4 cups a feeding. As he grows you will adjust the food amount. Enjoy your new puppy.

At this age I was feeding 3 times a day.It depends on which food you are feeding as to the quantity required. Your food should have a guidleline on the bag which is a good starting point. Are you feeding the same food your breeder was? This would be best and then you can check what quantity they recommend.Good luck with your new pup. The fun is only just beginning.

1.5 cups split into three 3 meals means that you are only feeding 1.5 cups total. Did you mean 1.5 cups at each feeding?

Sorry - I don't know how to add the quote. My message was meant for mckjen. I hope it isn't 1.5 cups all day!

Not sure how much you should feed, but you may find he eats this way no matter how much you feed him. :D

When we brought Raodi home at 9 weeks she was eating 2 cups a day, but we feed Orijen so it's richer than a lot of other kibbles.
