I feed my 5 month old, Steve, 4 cups a day- 2 in the morning and at night. My breeder said I could feed him 5 cups, is that too much and should I continue the mid-day feeding?

...on what kind of food you are feeding him. I'm certainly not an expert, but if you were to compare the suggestion amounts on different brands of dog food, you would find all different amounts.

From what I understand, generally speaking, the better quality food the less you have to feed them.

Well...ours is 4 months and we feed him Science Diet 1 and a half cups two times a day...3 cups total and he does fine...not overweight or underweight....35 lbs...i gues it's how much the dog weighs...but if he doesn't eat it all then we take it away after 15 min...the vet said that puppies will only eat what they need...they WILL NOT starve themselves...but as they get older they will over eat if you leave the food out...when they are bored...labs tend to gain weight easily so if we give a lot of treats, we lessen his food for the day...hope this info helps

My puppy Zoe is still on Iams Large Breed(11 months), we always based her feeding on the lowest suggested amount on the bag giving her more or less as we felt needed but it was normally pretty close to the lower suggested amount on the bag.. And the vet sayed Zoe is in perfect weight.:D
