I am just curious how much everyone is feeding their labs. I am trying to cut Diesel back but so he can drop a few pounds but he acts like he is STARVING all the time. I am just trying to get a feel for an approximate average.

Please post your dogs age, weight and amount of daily food.

Thanks!

Please add two questions to your request, otherswize you are comparing apples and oranges.

Amount GREATLY depends on the particular food you are feeding (ex: big difference between grain and no grain).

It also depends on the amount of exercise your dog is getting. For example, my dog (and foster) get at least 1.5hrs a day, including a 45 minute run. So they eat abit more than a dog who gets a 40 minute walk a day.

Sorry to be a stick in the mudd but it really is not as easy as how many cups per day and weight of a dog. To just compare those two numbers means very little.

My boy is 4.5 years old, 81 pounds, eats 3 cups of Orijen (grain free) a day and gets 1.5 hrs of exercise (50 minutes of walking, 40 minutes of running)

My foster is 54 pounds, about four years of age, eats four cups of Fromm (not grain free) and gets the same exercise as above. She needs to loose a few pounds as well.

Both get plenty of healthy treats a day as well.

Right now I am feeding a 6 month old Golden a little over 4 cups of Iams. In the past I have fed a dozen Labs at that age adult Pro Plan chicken and rice. I think they have ranged from not much over 3 cups to as much as 6. I think most of them it was about 4. This was with keeping all of them on the lean side without the ribs showing. I have often had to cut them back a little as their growth slowed at 7-8 months.

Your real answer for now is somewhat less than before. It is quite common for Labs to always act like they are starving. I don't know how much good it does for the dog to throw in some unsalted canned green beans or spice free pumpkin. It may make you feel better and won't hurt the dog.

On days where 140 pound, 20 month old Maxwell the Pyr eats 100% kibble, he gets 3 1/2 cups of Innova EVO.
