View Full Version : My dog can eat faster than your's

grizz

Grizz is a little over 1 and eats like a mad dog. If food is place in bowl his nose smacks the bottom so hard and quick that the food is gone under 20 sec. So then I started throwing food on carpet and let it go whereever the cup of food would hit, he would vacumm it up faster than any top dollar machine. I now place it in a monster black kong seems to be working so far. Does anybody have any other secrets. The modified bowls don't work for him.

Three Words...Tricky Treat Ball. You can fill this up with up to two cups of food @ a time. It should keep him busy for about 10-15mins & it makes him work for his food. This has worked well in slowing my guy down. He eats much slower out of his bowl now. It should only cost about $10 or less & Wal Mart sells it for the cheapest price.http://www.omegapaw.com/Images/TrickyTreat/TreatBallPgPic.jpg

I am going to look for one of the tricky treat balls too..Zac is a mad man at feeding time..Kiemo eats his food a piece at a time though so I'm not sure which is worse lol..oh and Kiemo always waits until we are all in bed and then the crunching starts..he's eating a little quicker these days though with Zac breathing down his neck for left over

There are not one, but 2 easy, tested, effective ways to control it. You can spread the food out on a cookie sheet or something. Some of my friends just throw it on the floor of the crate. You can put large rocks in the food dish, much to big to swallow. Either way, the dog can't gulp down one big mouthful after another.

I logged on today to post a comment/question about this subject and found this thread. Brady, 10 months old has started inhaling his food and the past 2 days threw up because in the middle because he was eating it so fast. I decided to put an old puppy Kong in the bowl tonight to see if this slows him down. The only question I had was is he eating so fast because he is a pig or because he is overly hungry?

Molly, 5 months old, eats a lot slower. Brady gets 2 cups of Diamond Naturals, LB puppy, lamb and rice. Is he starving at mealtime or is he just a Lab?

I Love my " Brake Fast Bowl" It definitely has slowed Carmel down and I also put warm water in her food right before I feed her... It has been the best 40 dollars I have spent...

What modified bowls did you try?? just curious..

I just checked that out online. Interesting. Did you really see a big difference?

I have the Brake-Fast bowl and I did see a big difference. Rock used to gobble his food and I saw this in my local dog boutqiue, figured I would give it a try. At first he thought it was a toy but since the bowl has "sections" he had to stop eat, move around the bowl, etc. My BF said I was "tortureing" him! Now, I feed him in a normal dog bowl and he eats slow still, I account this to the bowl.

So far it has been 3 days, 6 meals, since I put the old puppy kong in Brady's bowl. Moving the Kong around seems to have slowed him down and no more vomitting!!

Same here. It was the only thing that worked with Tide. And when I say I tried EVERYTHING, I truly mean it. The rock, ball or Kong in the bowl. The cookie sheet, and even wetting the food (that just made a huge mess and Tide was COVERED in dog food slop;)). I then bought the Brake-Fast and it definitely slowed her down a bit. They even have a metal one out now, which personally, I like better.

I truly think that some dogs aren't meant to be slowed down.

We use one very similar to the Brake-fast bowl. It has slowed Maddie down considerably.
