Does anyone use Nature's variety?
We were feeding our dogs Purina Proplan Lamb & Rice & wanted to switch to a better quality food.
On Saturday night we started feeding 1/2 Proplan & 1/2 nature's variety Venison & Millet.
Now Franco has diarrhea. Any suggestions?
Is the proplan an okay food?
What can I do for the diarrhea? We are going out of town on Weds-Sun & I don't want to drop her off for boarding if she's sick.

The switch to a new food should be done slower than you are doing it which is probably what is causing the diarrhea. It should be done slowly over at least 7-10 days decreasing the old food and increasing the new food slowly as you go.

Thanks,
I think I'll put them back on the old stuff until we come back from vacation.

I would do the conversion much slower. Venison is very rich and you might have done better with starting on the NV formula with the same protein source in it...like the Lamb and Oatmeal. Check with your store, see if they'll let you exchange the venison for the lamb one when you get back.

The switch from Pro plan to Natures Variety is probably what is causing your problem. Pro Plan is a much lower quality kibble with more fillers and whatnot, and natures variety is quite good. Your dog is "purifying" his system, getting rid of the things which he didn't need from the pro plan.
Try it a little slower. I mean, you could just switch, but it will make your dog have cleansing related symptoms.

Venison is very low in fat(lower than lamb and chicken) and therefore IMO not over rich (very rich).
Be sure that you are feeding the same cal. per meal. If the Prairie is higher in cal it could contribute to the diarrhea.
I agree with making the switch after you get home so you can monitor your own dogs rather than the boarding kennel doing it.
