Toby
Dog
Chocolate Labrador Retriever
Size: Large
Age: Adult
Sex: Male
I.D:
Notes: Toby is a beautiful chocolate color Labrador Retriever. Toby is not happy in our kennel as he is a bit intimidated by the other dogs and is happiest while leaning against the leg of a person. This is one sweet dog. If you're looking for a calm, gentle Lab, Toby is definitely your boy.

I am willing to pay the shelter fee as well as drive a major portion of the transport if someone can help on that end. I just spoke to the shelter and he should be safe for the weekend, but after that who knows.
autumnsmom 07-22-2005, 04:27 PM Any members from KY??? Joe can drive most of the way??
Susan 07-22-2005, 04:29 PM I'm obviously not in KY, but I would be happy to contribute to a paid transport if that is a possible solution. Susan
Hallesmom 07-22-2005, 05:50 PM I know there is a paid transport that goes through parts of that area. Deneen didn't you almost use it for Jake? I know Geri at Mercer County knows about it Geri Sipe at gnapier@earthlink.net or at 502-330-5544 - she is away with limited email access this weekend I think - but try her email/phone and see if she has any info that might help you. She is in KY.
autumnsmom 07-22-2005, 06:23 PM I e-mail Geri..she knows a Joe from the shelter. We are going to get the TWO Joe's hooked up.

Well, now, that isn't confusing at all :floor I think she told me she is out of town or away from the pc a lot this weekend so she may be slow in responding - just FYI.

Sure Sherry laugh! It's a lot of fun having a common name! :floor
If it is decided part of the transport has to be by a paid service, I would like to contribute. Thus if a plea for donations is made and I'm silent, PM me; it just means I didn't see it. Susan
Joe Maringo 07-23-2005, 09:23 AM Thanks to everyone for the offers of help. If I can't get a transport set up by around Wednesday I will just make the long drive myself. I can not let an adoptable dog sit in the shelter for lack of a ride.
I just spoke to the shelter and they will be sending Toby out on Monday for his vaccs, heartworm tes and neutering. I can pick him up any time after Monday afternoon. I am still trying to get hold of Joe Taylor since Deneen said he will be able to pull Toby for me.
Thanks for all your help everyone! :)
Lovemylabby 07-23-2005, 09:33 AM Joe...I have been following this story and I know you will save Toby one way or another...you are such a WONDERFUL person to do this...bless you for caring....
PS...My labby is "Toby" too!
autumnsmom 07-23-2005, 09:41 AM Joe I forwarded you his e-mail. Let me know if there is anything else I can do. I'm hoping they can get him to at least Cinci for you.
Joe Maringo 07-23-2005, 04:03 PM Here is the latest update.
I spoke to Joe Taylor about an hour ago. Toby is MINE :) All I have to do now is get him here to me. He will be getting neutered on monday as well as HW checked and vaccs. After that he will be boarded at the vets office until I can arrange transport. Bording will be around $8 per night.
I have had a few offers of help around Cincy, but nothing in KY. If I could get him to Cincy that would be great, but I have decided if I don't have anything worked out by Tuesday night, I will just get up bright and early on Wednesday and drive to KY and bring him home myself. It is 500 miles each way so it will be a 1000 mile day
Thanks Deneen for all your help in between puppy updates. And thanks to everyone else for the offers and good thoughts. I will post more as I know More.
Anyone know of a reporter that might be interested in a rescue story from start to finnish?
miskeira 07-23-2005, 04:09 PM Joe, you truly are a god send for Toby. God bless you and drive safely.
Sloigo 07-23-2005, 10:50 PM Joe has anyone asked or talked to Penny aka Punky on this board?? She is from Kentucky (relocated now) & helps with transport set ups. She is the one who set up the Chessie transport I help with. It was her friend that found & fostered Mac in Kentucky. Worth a try!! Karen
Labfan 07-23-2005, 11:10 PM Joe, I emailed the link to this post to Michelle May of KY Lab Rescue, in case she or one of her rescue group members is able to help with transport.

Joe Maringo 07-24-2005, 04:58 AM Found someone in KY that can help on that end if we can also transport a dobe along with Toby. I will have to check with Joanne who offered to do Lexington to Cincy to see if she has room for a crate with a dobe in it. The dobe is comming from the same shelter and is going to rescue here in Pittsburgh, so I don't mind helping if everyone else is OK with it :)
Sloigo 07-24-2005, 09:19 AM Great news Joe! Hope it all works out!!! Hate to see you might have had to make that long trip all yourself!!
Joe Maringo 07-24-2005, 06:53 PM GOOD NEWS! Someone named Joanne that more or less lurks here (HI Joanne :) ) has offered to do the entire leg from the shelter in KY to Cincinnatti where she lives. This will cut my portion in half :ibow . So unless someone come forward between now and tomorrow night, Joanne will get up bright and early Tuesday morning, :fastcar: drive from Cincy to the vets office in KY, pick up Toby and drive back to Cincy to meet me. This is the most generous transport offer I have ever had and I just want everyone to know how much I appriciate her help.
Joanne, you are one in a million! :cheers2:
miskeira 07-24-2005, 06:56 PM Both you and Joanne are people that will have a special place in heaven. Thank you for all that you do.
Sloigo 07-24-2005, 07:10 PM WONDERFUL!!!!!! :cheers2: :ibow :3dance:  :drive
AWSOME TEAM work! Lucky lab! :fastcar: DRIVE SAFE! Pictures please!
Labfan 07-24-2005, 07:54 PM Hmmmm....who is the mysterious board member named Joanne?
Thank you for your extremely generous offer, Joanne, to help out Joe and the shelter lab by driving such a long way.
You certainly ARE one in a million!

Joe Maringo 07-26-2005, 04:51 AM In about an hour I leave for Cincinnatti to pick up Toby :) I will be meeting Joanne there around 4pm and then we will be on our way home. I am also transporting a Doberman that is comming from a different KY shelter to dobe rescue here in Pittsburgh. Sure hope the heat is not too much for Toby and Knuckles, I don't have AC in the truck :( We will just make LOTS of water stops I guess.
Labfan 07-26-2005, 12:38 PM Hope that it will be a good trip for all. Will look for an update later.
