For those that have replied and PM me on the thread NB D&P, thanks for all your advice, I really appreciate it. Now, here's where I REALLY need your advice.

I am at such a loss, we go through two 30 lb bags in a month. Right now I have one bag. I was able to track another down last night. I'm going today to make sure it's good

If it is good, this means I have 1 month. Should I start transitioning my guys to a new food? This just breaks my heart! You know how hard it was for us to find a food that worked. Then...what food do I use? I have no clue, I feel like I have used every food and none worked. I would really like to have them on the same food.

Chase has colitis and bad skin allergies, Jack has skin allergies.

No chicken for Jack, he's allergic.

I thank you in advance

I feel your pain. I went through much of the same problems until I switched to the Natural Balance potatoe & duck. I hope you can get things worked out with Natural Balance. If not, and you want to stay with a duck based food, a couple come to mind. Eagle Pack makes a duck & oatmeal diet as part of their holistic line. Also, Pinnacle(made by Breeder's Choice) has a duck & potatoe diet that is new. Both of these foods look good but both have a little larger ingredient list than the NB. Hang in there.

i hope that NB gets their act together soon, what a lot of trouble for those that have searched long and hard for an allergy food that works. ZacksPa mentioned the two duck formulas that i am familiar with, and he is right, both of them have much more complicated ingredients lists than the NB duck.

looks like the Eagle Pack duck is out for you, it has chicken fat:
Duck Meal, Oatmeal, Ground Brown Rice, Chicken Fat (Preserved with Natural Mixed Tocopherols and Citric Acid), Dried Beet Pulp, Sun-Cured Alfalfa, Air Dried Peas, Flaxseed, Brewers Dried Yeast, Tomato Pomace, Dried Egg Product, Salt, Potassium Chloride, Menhaden Oil, Dried Carrots, Quinoa (Organic), Sweet Potato, Inulin, Glucosamine Hydrochloride, DL-Methionine, Vitamin A Acetate, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Vitamin E Supplement, Riboflavin Supplement, Vitamin B12 Supplement, d-Pantothenic Acid, Niacin Supplement, Choline Chloride, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Thiamine Mononitrate, Folic Acid, Ascorbic Acid, Biotin, Rosemary Extract, Inositol, Dehydrated Kelp, Polysaccharide Complexes (sequestered) of Zinc, Iron, Manganese, Copper and Cobalt, Potassium Iodate, Sodium Selenite, Yucca Schidigera Extract, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus casei, Enterococcus faecium, B. subtillus, Bacillus lichenformis, Bacillus coagulins, Aspergillus oryzae and Aspergillus niger.

Pinnacle Duck has oats, but other than that it is more similair to NB duck. does NB have flax? my maxine gets itchy from flax (apparently this is not uncommon), keep in mind that this food contains flax and if your doggies are super sensitive this might be a problem:

Duck Meal, Potatoes, Oatmeal, Duck, Oat Flour, Potato Fiber, Canola Oil (Preserved with Mixed Tocopherols), Toasted Oats, Flax Seed, Quinoa, Grapeseed Oil, Lecithin, Rosemary, Sage, Papain, Dried Lactobacillus Acidophilus Fermentation Product, Dried Bifidobacterium Bifidum Fermentation Product, Dried Bacillus Subtilis Fermentation Product, Dried Bacillus Licheniformis Fermentation Product, Dried Lactobacillus Lactis Fermentation Product, Potassium Chloride, Calcium Carbonate, Choline Chloride, Zinc Oxide, Zinc Amino Acid Chelate, Iron Sulfate, Vitamin A Acetate, Vitamin D3, Manganous Oxide, Vitamin E Supplement, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Copper Sulfate, Manganese Amino Acid Chelate, Copper Amino Acid Chelate, Riboflavin, Niacin, Calcium Pantothenate, Folic Acid, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Thiamine Mononitrate, d-Biotin, Calcium Iodate, Sodium Selenite, Cobalt Carbonate.

it is my understanding that with an allergic dog a single carb single protien food is ideal. have you looked into the California Naturals line (Natura), i believe that some of their foods fit this criteria.

Thanks for your reply, I'm off to do some research
On my list.

Fromm's Duck and sweet Potato
Nature's Variety New Zealand Venison Medley (apparently it's for allergies)

We shall see, wish me luck, I'll need it, lol

I actually posted the ingredients to Fromm's and I got a thumbs down on that from the experts here. Can you go with the canned NB D&P until the food looks right? Make sure to let NB know so that they can send you lots of coupons for the inconvenience. My guys LOVE the canned and snarf it right down!

Yeah, I was just looking at the ingredients, next to NB there are WAY to many  The people at NB told me NOT to feed them the canned because they will probably get the runs.

UGGHHHH, I am so ^&%^$#@ pi$$ed and confused. Okay, I feel a tiny bit better :floor

Okay - going out on a limb here. Have you ever thought of going raw? I know you said that you can't do chicken but you could even buy the patties or medallions premade. I know that Lisa (Zencat) ended up using Bravo premade when Grip (?) wouldn't eat the D&P anymore. Cosmo is our allergy guy and we feed him primarily the patties (Venison) but we feed him the D&P when we run out and the store doesn't have any or when we are going out of town for a weekend.

Happyhomer, NB does has flaxseed oil, is that what you were refering to, or is there a difference in that and flax?

I looked at California Naturals website, they don't have any duck and potato foods

Oh, yeah, I forgot...Chase can't have lamb :nothing:  :hmm:

I really have never thought about it, it kinda grosses me out, lol. It probably grosses me out because I know NOTHING about it "sign"
I guess I could do that, but it would be an absolute last resort...looks like i'm about there huh?

Okay, I guess I have to go through some old threads

yes, i meant flaxseed oil. if it has caused no problems so far then that is a good thing, because they put flaxseed oil in a lot of foods. and i was thinking of the california naturals lamb... shucks.

well, if you want to give NB another shot, they do make a fish based grain free food... i seem to remember a few threads here concerning fish based foods in general, maybe someone who has fed a fish based food can chime in. NB also makes a venison food that is single carb (rice) single protien... seems like NB has really cornered the market on allergy foods, too bad they have these quality control issues!

there are a lot of premade raw foods out there, too... it is really not so gross when you can just buy the stuff in chunks and plop it in the dish. gross is when you make your own... and on that note i am off to dismember some chickens for my dog's breakfasts. :)

you posted before me. let us know how it goes with the pinnacle... oats are one of the better grains for dogs, and it also has quinoa, good stuff that my dogs have no problems with... i think i remember from the natural diets section that Zencat has given Grip quinoa as well with no problems, so thats a good sign. good luck!

We feed the NB Sweet Potato and Salmon kibble - never a problem for the girls. Zoe had a problem with the D&P kibble, but is OK with the D&P canned mixed in occassionally with the SP&S kibble. We tried the NB Brown Rice and Venison kibble, but that didn't agree with Zoe either (darned "sensitive" purebreds! ;) ) Also, anytime I've given Zoe a RMB, she gets projectile diarrhea for 3 days  , so no RAW for her :(

Both girls absolutely LOVE when we put a half-cup or so of frozen green beens in with their kibble. They get extra energenic and wiggly-butt :)

"sign" Okay I changed my mind, I'm going to use Wellness Simple Solutions Duck formula. Here are the ingredients:

We’ve limited this formula to one meat protein, duck, and one carbohydrate, ground brown rice. They are perfectly complemented with only 3 other essential supplemental ingredients: Brown rice protein, flaxseed, and sunflower oil. Simply 5 main ingredients of superior quality that combine to cover the complete nutritional spectrum and provide your dog a tasty, balanced meal.

Duck – USDA-inspected deboned duck is leaner than traditional red meats and close in nutritional make-up to other poultry. It is also high in protein and niacin, an essential B vitamin.

Ground Brown Rice – A highly digestible and energy-giving carbohydrate with only a trace of fat. A great choice for the health-conscious because of its high percentage of carbohydrates and only a trace of fat. It is a fantastic grain substitute for wheat, because it is gluten-free and non-allergenic.

Thats how they list them on the site

What do you guys think?

I was just going to suggest the Wellness Simple Solutions Duck...I think the Wellness line is excellent...and I know this food is a one protein/one carbohydrate food....they also have a money back guarantee ...if you are not happy with any of their foods...you just return the unused portion and they will refund your money....I feed my dogs the California Natural Lamb and Rice and they do very well on it...( they need a lamb based food)...but I know many people that use Wellness and like it very much....good luck to you...I know how upsetting it is to have a dog with allergies and then have to start all over to find a food that they can tolerate....hope everything works out for you... :)

I just got home from work and was going to suggest the Wellness Simple Solutions if nobody had yet. I sure hope it works for you. It is probably the most expensive food sold at the store I shop at. If it works, then it's a small price to pay. I disagree with Natural Balance. I don't see why the canned duck & potatoe should cause problems if it is introduced slowly. For variety, I give Zack a can of salmon w/some green beans. He loves it! I would let NB know in no uncertain terms, why you no longer use their duck/potatoe diet.
