Merrick is coming out with a new dog food line, that is grain free. Before Grain (http://www.beforegrain.com/) nothing up other than the name though. I cannot wait to read the ingredients on this. It will be available in Chicken, Salmon, and Buffalo. 100% meat in cans will also be available in this line..

Interesting - this looks to be along the lines of Taste of the Wild. All the dry formulas contain chicken, so if your dog is sensitive, it won't be an option.Ingredients:
Deboned Salmon, Chicken Meal, Dehydrated Potato, Turkey Meal, Canola Oil, Dehydrated Sweet Potato, Dried Egg, (preserved with mixed tocopherols, a source of Natural Vitamin E and Ascorbic Acid, a source of Vitamin C), Yeast Culture, Natural Dried Chicken Liver, Dicalcium Phosphate, Lysine, Guar Gum, Sea Salt, Alfalfa, Salmon Oil, Choline Chloride, Acai Berry (freeze-dried), Dried Blueberry, Yucca Schidigera Extract, Dried Venison Broth, Zinc Amino Acid Complex, Chondroitin Sulfate, Glucosamine Hydrochloride, Natural Venison Flavor, Chicory Root, Marigold Extract, Rosemary Extract, Lactobacillus Plantarum, Enterococcus Faecium, Lactobacillus Casei, Lactobacillus Acidophilus, Natural Celery Flavor, Iron Amino Acid Complex, Vitamin E Supplement, Manganese Amino Acid Complex, Natural Color (Tumeric), Vitamin A Supplement, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Copper Amino Acid Complex, D-Calcium Pantothenate, Vitamin D3, Niacin, Lecithin, Riboflavin Supplement, Biotin, Ethylenediamine Dihydriodide, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Cobalt Amino Acid Complex, Folic Acid, Thiamine Mononitrate, Sodium Selenite

I wonder why they did that. Chicken is not an issue for my dogs, however you are right, if a dog has issues to it, it sure would not be an option. I wonder if they based that decision on their regular line..
This kibble looks great to me though..However I was so hoping for no egg product and no alfalfa..Mainly the egg product:( My GSD does not tolerate that at all. The Merrick I feed now is one of the few kibbles that is decent, that does not contain egg or alfalfa. I think I will give it a try though, to see if he can handle it.

They do it because chicken meal is cheaper than making the primary protein source the buffalo or the salmon. Notice that those are debone meats? They still have their moisture content, making them the highest ingredient on the list. Once the water is removed, it falls much lower on the list. Still an interesting food, and I like the buffalo option...

I like seeing another grain free food come out on the market and think the 32% protein and 15% fat is a good ratio. Looking at the ingredients list: I'm not sure I remember seeing yeast culture and guar gum listed in formulas much. Anyone know what they're for?

that is awful. Guess this one won't ever make my rotation of grain free foods. I HATE when they include chicken in a non chicken formula. I use some of the merrick cans as some are grain free even though they are not labeled as such. one store I use labels the dispenser.
