NEW RECALL: Mulligan Stew and Canine Caviar Dog Food Recalled (http://www.itchmo.com/read/mulligan-stew-and-canine-caviar-dog-food-recalled_20070427)

April 27th, 2007 UPDATE: Canine Caviar CEO says it’s not a “recall,” they are “collecting” these products and maintains the products are safe. If the company that made the food says it’s a recall, we’re calling it a recall. We have added his email after the jump.
The CEO’s email added Canine Caviar Gourmet Beaver 5.5oz cans to the list below.
ORIGINAL POST: Itchmo has learned that the list of foods recalled by American Nutrition has expanded to include the following 4 dog food items (http://www.pr.com/press-release/37232):

Mulligan Stew Chicken 13.2oz
Mulligan Stew Turkey 13.2oz
Canine Caviar Gourmet Beaver 13.2oz
Canine Caviar Gourmet Turkey 13.2ozIn fact, American Nutrition has set up a separate Web site (http://www.americannutritioninc.com/) to track the expanding recall.
NOTE: As of 10:50 am, American Nutrition and Breeder’s Choice has both confirmed that Breeder’s Choice products are not affected by the recall.

NEW RECALL: Harmony Farms Recalls Cans and Biscuits (http://www.itchmo.com/read/harmony-farms-recalls-cans-and-biscuits_20070427)

April 27th, 2007
Harmony Farms food is made by American Nutrition. They are recalling cans and biscuits due to “tampering” by American Nutrition.
The recall covers the following products:

All Harmony Farms canned dog foods
All Harmony Farms canned cat foods
All Harmony Farms Health Bar biscuits
Recall Update: Friday (http://www.itchmo.com/read/recall-update-friday-3_20070427)

April 27th, 2007
(NEW) FDA is more concerned about other toxins (than melamine) in food (http://www.sacbee.com/101/story/162048.html).
(NEW) FDA is “sitting on a solution” to screening tainted food (http://www.latimes.com/news/printedition/front/la-na-fda27apr27,1,4329155,full.story?coll=la-headlines-frontpage&ctrack=1&cset=true). Plan created in reponse to 9/11 lacks funding.
Yesterday, we saw several recalls that should have been announced more than a week ago. The FDA says no more recalls (again) (http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2007/4/26/174253/489) which is immediately followed by several recalls.
We write this update with a heavy heart. Itchmo suggested avoiding rice protein — what we didn’t know was that many ingredient lists were misleading. The ingredient labels did not list rice protein. In fact, ingredient lists can no longer be trusted — leaving the consumer with little chance at avoiding high-risk ingredients.
