I just started this week with being a volunteer for my local lab rescue. Sadly there aren't many volunteers in my immediate area. The do cover pennsylvania, parts of New Jersey and Maryland. I am very excited to finally be helping. I would like to ask two questions. If anyone is in any of these areas and wanting to help please let me know. Volunteering doesn't just mean fostering. It can be home visits to potential owners, rescuing a dog from a shelter or just as simple as passing out flyers. My second q is that if you are looking for a dog to adopt and you are in my area please feel free to email me or private message me. There are so many wonderful dogs in need of loving homes. Thanks so much!

That's wonderful Melissa!! :)

Are you going to be fostering or helping out in other areas? You are absolutely correct that there are waaaaaaay more areas to help out in other than fostering.

Thanks for volunteering!

Thanks everyone. In response to Gunnergirls post; I won't be fostering til Montana gets a little older. For now I will do dog evaluations for surrendered dogs in my area. After I do three together home visits I can start doing them by myself. Right now I am waiting for a neighbor who wants to take her lab to the pound. If she does then I will watch and see if he gets adopted. If not then the rescue will step in and save him. I am also going to print out some flyers and look into some fundraisers. Most walmarts will donate 25.00 gift card to rescues so I am waiting one of the senior volunteers to get the paperwork done. When she calls I can pick them up for her and mail them to her to purchase supplies for the dogs in foster homes. There are so many things to do. If is so exciting and rewarding when I open my email and see all the dogs that found homes. (Although there are a list who still need homes.)

Melissa,
I just started fostering for an organization out of the North East called NEARR. We went through the whole process and just three weeks ago brought Kayleigh, 18mon old black female, to our house. It hasn't been great everyday, but my two labbies have taken her under their wing. I am having a pre-screened potential forever homeowner coming to see her next week. Three dogs in the house is a lot, but I'm so glad to be helping out. I may take a short break and help with home visit inspections etc. Keep up the good work...people like us help save the lives of some labbies!
