I'm absolutely clueless when it comes to photography. I have a little point & shoot Canon that I love, but the picture quality is not the best, obviously.

I want to start learning more about photography- so tell me.. where did you learn what you know? Any books that you recommend that I check out or even websites? It'll be awhile before I can get a better camera - I'm saving up a rather large downpayment for a new car :brow:, so I've got awhile to read/learn. :)

What kind of Canon? Is it digital? I have a Canon PowerShot A630 point and shoot digital and I absolutely love it. Would love to see some pics!

I'll have to look up the model for my Canon, since I'm out of town for a conference and left it at home. :p:

But, pics in the meantime: (sorry, I didn't resize them yet)

My all-time favorite picture I took with my camera so far, mostly because it's just disgusting.

(That gray thing is a BULLET in my steak- haven't eaten much red meat since then )

My favorite picture of Lia that I've taken so far:

And a few others of Lia:

Other subjects:
Chip (YF at 4 months)

Socket (5 year old tricolor beagle)

Maddy (my chub of a kitty!)

I think that gives you a good idea of what it does, other than on pics of just Lia.

Cute pictures..I like the one of Socket :) I can't believe there was a bullet in the steak!

I have been learning through workshops at my local camera store, photography books, canon forums. Mostly I have been learning through taking pictures and practicing with different lenses and settings :)

My digital camera is the Canon Powershot SD630. It's a few years outdated now, but it still does it's job. I'd like to learn how to do it better myself. :)

Thanks for the nice comments on the pics. :) I'm a little embarrassed because like I said, I know nothing!

look around for any photography groups or clubs near you. Try Meetup.com and see if anybody's organized anything in your area. A good camera store might have notices for groups or meetings. Does the school system or a nearby community college offer any kind of community/continuing education programs? usually there are photography related classes in the mix. Try the library for books. You're sure to find tons of photography books there. Don't limit yourself to just the ones on digital photography too. The stuff you'll find in non-digital photography books will be just as applicable.

Books, the internet, forums, all sorts of stuff. There's a thread started with good websites to visit. But, you know what? The best way to learn about photography in my opinion is take pictures. Lots of pictures. Digital film is cheap, so use lots of it! :)

Write stuff down too. I'm not familiar with your camera's options but if there are settings on it you can adjust then write down what you adjusted, or learn how to read the EXIF data. With my film cameras I used to have a notebook and I'd break it up into columns with data recorded.

The great thing about owning dogs is that they make great test subjects for photography too.

Have fun!
