Hi everyone, I just had to share this with you. Look what my dear, dear friend Carolyn and partner in crime wrote for me. As most of you know, she volunteers at the Livingston County Humane Society in Chillicothe, MO. Since we've been working together, and it's only been since April of this year, we saved over 150 animals from that shelter that went to rescue or to forever homes. Carolyn definately needs to pursue a career in writing. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
Hugs,
Susan
The Night Before Transport
By Carolyn Hadley
'Twas the night before transport, and all through the net,
All the drivers were asking, the run sheet out yet?
Final run sheet was typed by Susan with care,
In hopes that all drivers at their meets would be there.
The dogs were counted head by head
While Carolyn worked frantically to find paperwork for said
And Lesley in her stocking cap said with a sigh
“You all right Carolyn? I have to fly”
When all of the sudden there arose such a clatter,
Susan sprang to the phone to see what was the matter.
Away to the desk she flew like a flash,
Hoping her computer was not going to crash.
“Susan” I said with a voice full of glee,
Do you think you could do one more favor for me?”
Susan said, “Sure, what’s going on friend?”
I said, “I need to add one more lab, his name is Ben”.
“I think we can do it” with a voice full of hope
“But we still need one driver and I’m at the end of my rope.”
“I know you can fill it oh coordinator extraordinaire
We could call that one lady…the one who gave us a scare.”
Susan said with conviction, “I’ll do my best”,
“Now what does Ben weigh? Same size as the rest?”
In a low muffled voice I managed to say
“He’s just a bit bigger…..uhhhhh 120 I’d say.”
With a loud crashing bang the phone dropped to the floor
Susan said “Are you nuts, some cars or just 2 door.”
“I know my dear friend” I said with a grin
“I know we can do it, I know he’ll fit in.”
So in one swift movement Sue’s fingers went flyin
Updating the run sheet “I’m tryin, I’m tryin!”
The drivers all responded with a resounding “why not?’
“We can cram him in if it takes all we got”.
Susan worked through the evening and some of the night
Until the last driver chimmed in and everything was all right.
The final run sheet was sent out in glorious detail,
All drivers were asked to respond with an email.
Susan checked off the list as the drivers all replied
Then sat back in relief and let out a sigh.
I called Susan to confirm and to let her know then
That the new dog on board was not Brad but Ben.
We visited a while, laughed til bedtime,
When all of the sudden my email did chime.
“Susan” I said with a voice full of hope…..Uhhhhhhhhhhhh
Susan just stopped me and said “Nope Nope Nope.”
“Next weekend my friend, we can move lots more,
I think this time we should stop with 34.”
I knew she was right and I didn’t dispaire
For she’s my best friend and Transport Coordinator….EXTRAORDINAIRE
Hugs,
Susan
