Anyone in the NJ area that would be interested in setting up a Lab meeting day? I know I posted before but my pup needs Labbie friends!

Where in Jersey? I'm in Philly for a while longer....

Tide's Mom

Well I live on the Jersey Shore but depending on where everyone (I guess that's you ane I so far) lives we could set up something in the middle.

I'm up for whatever, wherever, whenever. Don't know where to go in Jersey, though. Anytime this weekend or next weekend is good, if you're interested....

Great! That makes 3 so far!! My pup is 6 months but is going in for her Spaying tomorrow. It will be a week or two before she's up and running but hopefully we can set something up in a few weeks!

Actually, I'm in....but I think Jason might have to bring some cheesesteak sandwiches from Jim's on South Street. What do you say Jason?

Tide's Mom
03-18-2008, 03:37 PM
I agree Lucy's mom! No onions please Jason :brow:

I have seen a lot of NJ people in the last few days so hopefully we can get something set up soon. Tide is laying low for a week or so but after that most definitely. I'll start looking for places. Someone PM'd me with this place http://www.rockytopdogpark.com/ check it out and let me know what you think. Kind of pricey but could be fun! Although I think to set up an event we would have to be members.

Abbey is interested too. We are in Sussex County as well - Lake Hopatcong. We would love to come and play. Perhaps the first or second Saturday in April, depending on Tide's heal time? It looks like a great place!

Tide's Mom
03-19-2008, 01:54 PM
Second Saturday in April works best for me. What about all of you? Tide should be all healed up by then and ready to romp around.

Except for a haircut on the 12th (which is certainly movable) I'm in. Are we talking about the 12th or 13th?

OK everyone! The NJ/PA/NYC Lab Fest will be held on Saturday, April 12th at 12 noon. The meeting place will be the Rocky Top Dog Park in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Kingston</st1:City>, <st1:State w:st="on">NJ</st1:State></st1:place>. Please see link for directions, rules and regulations, forms and any other information you may need. http://www.rockytopdogpark.com/ (http://www.rockytopdogpark.com/)
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
I spoke to Gretchen (the owner) and she said that if 5 or more of us attend that we will get the discounted price of $5 per dog. You will need to fill out a visitors form which I believe you can DL one from the web-site. If not I’ll send you the form via e-mail (just PM me with your e-mail). I’ll also need a list of owners and dogs names that will be attending to send along to Gretchen so that it will be less chaotic the day of the meeting. You have the choice of PM’ing me with your full name and dog’s name so that I can make up the list or for those that don’t feel comfortable, sending Gretchen an e-mail with the subject line reading “Lab-Fest April 12th”. Please make sure she knows that you will be attending this event.

If anyone has any further questions please feel free to PM me or send me an e-mail.

I know that is why I need Hubby to come. I figure he can go in the fenced area and we will watch from behind the fence. I assume that is where you will be going in the free run area, right?

On another note... has everyones dog done this before. My dog is really friendly but sometimes when out walking he will growl if another dog sniffs him the wrong way. He has always been around dogs running free and never seemed to have a problem although we new everyone. This would be our first time doing something like this and my husband wasn't so sure.

Yes, we'll be in the fenced play area with the pond.

Has your dog ever been to an off leash dog park? I take Tide to one at least 3 to 4 times a week so she's very social and used to meeting and playing with different dogs. If your dog doesn't like to be sniffed or jumped on by other dogs and puppies then maybe that environment wouldn't be suitable for him. Is it an aggressive growl? Tides very vocal when she plays (sounds like Cujo) but she’s not being aggressive at all. Some dogs are just more vocal then others. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
I hope you can make it. I'm debating. It's a 2 1/2 hour trip for us & the dogs haven't been in the car for anything more than an hour.

Molly41
03-24-2008, 11:17 AM
I'm excited but also a little nervous too. We have not done a dog park since there aren't any nearby. Molly has played off-leash in our yard with another lab but not with a bunch of labs. She's usually pretty submissive so I think she'll be fine. We might spend a little time on the leash till I feel she's comfortable. I suspect the pond will be a big hit! Thanks for the reminder to check the park rules. And thanks for pulling this together..! :thumb4:

Yeah, the pond will definetly be a hit. DON'T FOREGET THE TOWELS FOR THE RIDE HOME!! In fact I have a car that has not been dog christened as of yet and am in the process of getting the rubber mat and fence for the car!

Molly41
03-24-2008, 01:23 PM
Thanks. I usually keep a towel in the car for just-in-case situations. I think she'll need more than that though, judging by her desire to frolic in the lake at our park.

Just out of curiosity, how old are everyone's labs? Molly is 1-1/2.

Tide's Mom
03-24-2008, 01:26 PM
Tide will be 6 months March 29th.

I'll need about 20 towels for Tide. She LOVES to get dirty!

Lucy just turned 6 months...and she's never been in the water before so the lake will be interesting. Towels are something I would never have thought of, so thanks for the tip.

Also keep in mind that no children will be permitted into the park under the age of 8. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause for any of you, but it's for their own good. I'm moving to Michigan. The movers will be here on the 22nd to gather up all of my stuff, so I need to make sure I'm ready for that. I have some personal stuff to handle that weekend that's going to eat up Saturday, so I won't be able to go. :( The puppers are sad too - they will have to be boarded, but it will be worth it to all of us in the long run.

Oh, darn!!! That really stinks Jason! Well maybe you can drive from Michigan when we have the next Lab Fest :brow:. Jk! We'll miss ya and if I don't talk to you, good luck with the move and everything. Thanks for all your help as well. Much appreciated! :thumb4:

we wanted to come, Kevin got off work too but this morning, I fell down the stairs and fractured my ankle :( I am in an air cast and on crutches. I am not allowed to put any pressure on my ankle for the next 72 hours and I cant go to work for the next 2 weeks. Since I work from home some days, I can still work, I just cant physically drive into the office haha

It really stinks and I dont wish it on anyone! have a blast at the lab fest and count us in next one :thumb4:

I just checked the website and I will be there with George. I was concerned b/c he is intact, but the only restriction I could find is that they can deny a specific breed known to be aggressive when they are intact. Don't think they mean labs! George does not have an aggressive bone in his body, has his GCG and TDI.

I did not find any downloadable form though. I emailed Rocky Top to tell them that I wanted to attend. I guess I will just fill it out when I get there. It is less than 1/2 hour away from me so I am looking forward to meeting all of you.:D

If you send me your e-mail I'll get the form to you. Or you can e-mail me abetsch@njsmc.org. Either way works! :D

Don't worry about it - Gretchen allows intact males on a case by case basis, especially with non-aggressive breeds. She'll probably just keep a close watch, which she does anyway with newcomers.

Also - I just wanted to let everyone know that the parking lot is kind of small there, so the earlier you arrive, the better. There is a pretty consistent group of 7 - 10 people who are there every Saturday from 10 - 1.

We're looking forward to seeing everyone there :thumb4:

So far the weather still looks iffy. They are still calling for showers so that could mean off and on all day or consistent. :( If its nasty all day and the showers don't let up then we will have to reschedule. If it’s just cloudy with showers off and on we’re still on! There is a rain date just in case for the following weekend.

I have had a few more people sign up so it looks like there’s going to be a decent size group. I can't wait to meet everyone and their pups!:D

I am assuming that we should check this thread in the morning to get the final decision, yes? Whatever you think is in the best interests of the group is A-OK with me...!

I think what I'll do, being I'm off tomorrow and my internet at my house is kinda out of whack right now, is have Lucy's Mom send out a message late tomorrow afternoon if the weather looks really bad so keep an eye out for that. If the weather is still iffy, then I'll post a comment early Saturday morning. Sound good? I hate to make a last minute decision like that but the darn weather men have been back and forth with showers or steady rain for the last two days! Jeesh!!! Can't they get it together? :brow:<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

BTW, I didn't see anything on the park website about the availability of drinking water for the dogs. Does anyone know if it's available or should be plan on bringing it with us? Can you tell I've never done a dog park before...?

I would bring water to to be on the safe side.

The dog park I've been bringing Lucy to doesn't specifically have water available but the parents bring bottles and share with everyone in the bowls that are provided throughout the area. Based on this, I went out and bought a gallon of water. Its not like it goes bad if you don't have to use it. :D

I work until 6:00, so my last post on Friday about the weather on Saturday will be around then. Like Amanda said, if the rain is scattered...lets do it. I've never spent so much time out in the crappy weather than I have since getting this dog....might as well try to have some fun with it. :D

Fingers crossed and hope to see you all on Saturday! Anne, I'll be wearing something that will guarantee you'll know who I am!

There is plenty of water available at the park - they have bowls out for the dogs and a hose to fill them with.

Well then we will have to see how the pups get along. We have been thinking about new watering holes for Bailey J.

If we could make a decision before 9 AM that would help. We have an hour and a half drive and I have to take Bailey with me to church clean up day that Am before coming out to Jersey.

WIll keep checking through the night.
