Hi guys! I've been feeding my little guy Nutro large breed puppy food. I switched to the lamb and rice formula because he got an ear infection and I heard his food could've been producing the yeast in his ears.

Anyway, It seems like alot of people don't think it's very good, but the guy at Pate Smart said it was top of the line. He does seem to itch a lot but I assumed it was bug bites. Am I wrong in thinking that? This is my first puupy and I want him to be healthy and have the best.

What does everyone else find is a good food? Is Nutro bad??

Thanks

Nala eats the same stuff. She is a healthy dog from what the Vet said last night. I have not had any issues. But everyone is different.

Awesome pic of Nala!!

I recently switched my foster/rescue Sam to Nutro Ultra adult. I did so after reading posts on this board and after I read the ingredient labels of the foods much more closely. I have seen some recommend Innova over Nutro, but Innova is hard to get where I am (not impossible, I admit). Of course, others will say BARF is the only way to go.

I do not know if Ultra is considered better than Max by people on this board. Looking at the ingredients, etc., it may be that Ultra is better. ??

Sam has done really well on Nutro Ultra.

We started Clyde on Nutro Lamb Meal and Rice Formula for large breed puppies from the day we brought him home. It has been great for him!! He is very healthy and has a beautiful coat and healthy skin. After his 1st birthday, we switched him the the Lamb Meal and Rice Formula for adults.

Allot of peoples dogs do very well on Nutro. My Vizsla's breeder feeds all her dogs Nutro Max (and she's got 12 adults) and they all look pretty good.

My lab however, did not do well on Nutro - dandruff, dry coat, itchy, ear infections. So it depends on the dog.

I guess this is why I am not sure. Marley has had one bad ear infection and he seems to itch alot. I've never had a dof so I'm not sure how much scratching is to much. Is it from his food?

Itchy skin (especially paws) and frequent ear infections can be a sign of a food allergy or intolerance. For my lab these symptoms went away when I switched to a raw homemade diet (after trying several kibbles including Kirkland and Natural Balance).

He hasn't had an ear infection in almost a year, he doesn't itch anymore and his coat is beautiful (just ask Black as Night).

If you are having those issues you may want to try another food that does not contain corn or wheat and see if the symptoms go away.

We always recommend Nutro or Royal Canin's Lab Formula to adopters, friends, pretty much everyone. If your pup is a very light yellow he could be a bit more sensitive. I've noticed that the lighter the yellow, the more prone to allergies and food sensitivity they have. Try a different Nutro, or even the Lab Formula from Royal Canin. Brock does extremely well on the RC, and Peykos eats the Lamb and Rice Nutro, and seems to be doing good too. Peykos is a picky eater, and didn't like the RC, but Brock eats anything, and he does NOT have gas on it, so it's a keeper, lol!

Nala and Brock could be Brother and Sister!!!!! She is so pretty, but of course I may be partial, lol! I put up pics of Brock in the Photo Gallery, under "Brock, our Poohbear!". Maybe I'm just imagining things, but they look so similar!

Oh, she's a beauty!
