I'm feeding my 9mo. old Nutro NC Chicken and Rice. She's never been a big eater, and rarely finishes what's in her bowl. I'm starting to think that she's getting too thin. I was thinking about trying the Lamb and Rice or the high energy formulas. My thinking is that she is very active, and that since the High Energy has more calories per kibble, if she ate the same amount, she'd still be getting more nutrition. Am I crazy? Does anyone have any experience with this?

How much food does your girl eat each day?

The reason I ask is because I don't think you will gain much by switching to the Nutro NC high energy kibble.

If your dog eats 4 cups of kibble a day, she will be getting less than 200 additional calories per day. You mentioned that she is a dainty eater, so maybe she doesn't even eat 4 cups per day, if so, you will see an even smaller increase by going with the high calorie formula.

The Nutro NC chicken, rice, and oatmeal food is 344 kcal/cup while the Nutro NC high energy is 393 kcal/cup. Thats only an additional 49 calories per cup. @ 4 cups per day, thats only 196 additional calories per day.

If you are serious about her gaining some weight, then switch to a super premium that has alot more calories. You could try Natural Balance Ultra Premium at 485 kcal/cup or even Innova at 557 kcal/cup.

This may actually be the best way considering you said she is a dainty eater. For example, it only takes 2.5 cups of Innova to equal the same amount of calories as 4 cups of Nutro.

good luck,
