Hello,

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with Nutro natural Choice Venison and Brown Rice?

A Nutro Rep got a hold of me and now I'm considering trying this brand. I would sincerely appreciate any input.

Nutro products are grain heavy. I don't like when reps push their food on me. Also Nutro has had quality issues with their foods.

Here's the ingredients of their Venison. I think you could find a better food.

Venison Meal, Whole Brown Rice, Ground Rice, Rice Gluten, Rice Bran, Poultry Fat (preserved with mixed Tocopherols, a source of Vitamin E), Rice Flour, Dried Plain Beet Pulp, Oatmeal, Natural Flavors, Sunflower Oil (preserved with mixed Tocopherols, a source of Vitamin E), Soybean Oil (preserved with mixed Tocopherols, a source of Vitamin E), Dehydrated Potatoes, Calcium Carbonate, Potassium Chloride, L-Lysine, Salt, Dried Egg Product, Dried Kelp, Taurine, Choline Chloride, Vitamin E Supplement, Zinc Sulfate, Zinc Proteinate, Ferrous Sulfate, Ascorbic Acid (source of Vitamin C), Biotin, Manganese Proteinate, Manganous Oxide, Niacin, Garlic Flavor, Calcium Iodate, Calcium Pantothenate, Copper Sulfate, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Riboflavin Supplement (source of Vitamin B2), Vitamin A Supplement, Glucosamine Hydrochloride, Thiamine Mononitrate (source of Vitamin B1), Copper Proteinate, Sodium Selenite, Chondroitin Sulfate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Menadione Sodium Bisulfite Complex (source of Vitamin K activity), Folic Acid, Vitamin D3 Supplement.
Nutro supports the safe, ethical and humane treatment of all animals.

Palomar is currently eating this because he was having some tummy problems. He is doing just great on it, no complaints at all. In fact, his shedding has decreased quite a bit. He was on the Ultra and I was worried that his tummy problems was related to that but I found out that they werent, so when this food is gone we're going back to the Ultra. Both are great foods for the price range!

LazyLab, may I ask how long you have been using the Ultra and the Venison foods?

I have found some information about Nutro having problems, but nothing is consistant. I remember when Nutro had a shortage of their Lamb and Rice, I think these troubles occured when Mars bought the company.

I used to feed their Lamb and Rice 20 years ago to my first dogs, but haven't tried it since. The Venison has sparked my interest because my dog seems to really like that flavor.

Thanks again for the replies and if anyone else has any thoughts about Nutro Venison or their other products I'd love to hear from you.

I need to say one thing about Nutro. I fed my last pup Sam the large breed lamb and rice puppy food (Natural Choice) It was what worked best for him. Then it was gone because of the lamb whatever shortage. They promised me up and down that food would return. Well, it is gone and gone from their website now as well. That bugs me. I used to think their Lamb and Rice adult food (again, Natural choice) wasn't too bad and I was going to transition Sam to it before I lost him. Anyway, they have gone and changed the formula again. Now lamb is the first ingredient instead of lamb meal followed by many grain fragments. Lamb meal shows up on the list further down. They have also added rice protein concentrate (aka rice gluten - I believe this was also a problem that caused recalls) and potato protein - yuck. Bottom line - I just don't trust that company anymore. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt when everybody was saying their dogs were getting sick - my Sam was doing well. Now I think they've tried to cut corners and I have no more faith in that company.

Sorry to sound like such a butt, but they really ticked me off.
