Tomorrow Maddy and I are entering in an obedience match. It will be our 2nd and we've done so much training since the first one.

This match actually allows e collars, so we should do fine. I know Maddy will be perfect, but I will be the one to mess up and then she'll do the wrong thing.

I'll report back tomorrow!!!

Hey, cool! Where is it?

We are going to be entering our first one on 9/11, then another one (sponsored by the HDLRC) in early October in Lancaster.

Even though Libby just turned a year earlier this month, she is coming along pretty well with her obedience, and I'm looking forward to getting her out and about, so that she is working around lots of other dogs, rather than just those in the lab club who I work with on Wednesdays (usually 1-2 dogs). Plus, I'd like to get her CGC.

SoCalLabLover, it was in West Covina...sponsor by a GSD group. It was wierd, they didn't even score you, it was really just PRACTICE. Actually I was kind of annoyed because it started at 9 and they had a list that made it look like Novice went first. So I was there in plenty of time, and they did it backwards. I sat around for four hours....waiting to go through the motions ONCE. OMG.

The advice I got was that I need to pay more attention to ME than Maddy. Maddy's acting nervous because she's unsure what I am doing, but when I just concentrate on me doing the course, she was good. She refused to stand today. I don't know what was up with that.

Where's the match 9/11?? I am thinking about going the HDLRC one but it's like a 2 hour drive!!! But at least I can practice with Grace in conformation as well. The LRCSC one is 10/7 or 10/8...whatever that Saturday is. You should consider that one as well if you can make it.

I'm guessing that this is the match you are talking about?

One of my mentors and fellow HDLRC members was looking into their fun match coming up in a couple of weeks, too, but they had mentioned that most of the classes were just fun-type games, and they couldn't guarantee that the CGC was even being offered... that is cutting it a bit too close for me, and if I can't guarantee that there are actual obedience-type classes or rally, for that matter (or CGC), it isn't worth beating the heat and traffic to get down that way.

The 9/11 match is also located at the Jack Bradshaw (local show superintendent) site...do you know about this? It is a great way to check out the Southern California shows and matches, etc.: http://www.jbradshaw.com/clubs.htm

Here is the actual site for the 9/11 match:

The HDLRC one is at this link: http://www.hdlrc.com/hd10october.html
It is supposedly in a terrific park, and there should be some shade, though I think we'll bring a tent anyhow to cover crates. There is also going to be a costume class, so I'm really trying to think of a good costume for Libby for this one. The drive for you will probably be a killer, but the people are all really cool in this club... and it is an AKC-sanctioned match, so we're shooting for a labrador specialty next year from what I hear. (I'm a new member) ;)

This is really going to be fun! Hopefully, I'll get a chance to meet you at some "local" event one of these days! :D
