View Full Version : Ohio Lab Fest
Riley413 10-09-2004, 04:19 PM Well I asked my parents what they thought about having a little Lab Fest here in Cincinnati or in Findlay. It would be easier for us to have it in Cincinatti, but Findlay is only a couple hours away so that could work out if need be.
If we decide to do it in Cincinatti, we could all plan to meet at Mt. Airy Dog Park (http://www.cincinnati-oh.gov/cityparks/pages/-4327-/). We were thinking of doing it either within the next couple of months before we REALLY hit the winter months and it becomes too unbearably cold, or more likely sometime in the spring. Any ideas here or anyone interested?? Please let me know!
Chocolatelabmom 10-09-2004, 04:31 PM On my way out - so I can write much now. But I am DEFINATELY interested. Cinci is only about an hour away from us!!!
Riley413 10-09-2004, 04:35 PM Great! I forgot to include this before but we were thinking we could all meet up at the dog park and then come back to our house and have dinner or lunch or something depending on the number of people that decide to come. I know it is quite a few months off, but we do have a couple extra rooms at our house if anyone has trouble finding a place to stay.:)
Avree 10-09-2004, 05:47 PM OMG, I didn't think there was anyone on here from Ohio. We live near Columbus. We're in Lancaster, Ohio. What kind of lab fest were you planning?
LindaAcup 10-09-2004, 07:03 PM OK, Indy is only a couple hrs from Cinci, so I'm there, too.
Riley413 10-09-2004, 10:53 PM I'm so glad people are interested!
Avree, I was just thinking like a one or two day get-together. Dog park during the day and maybe our house at night for dinner? I'm not really sure yet, just thought I'd throw out the idea and ask for feedback.:)
Riley413 10-10-2004, 06:09 PM Anyone else?:deal:
GabbysMom 10-10-2004, 09:57 PM I am definately in since I live in Cincinnati. Mt. Airy Dog Park is about 15 minutes away. I used to take Bear and Annie walking there, but before the dog park was there I think. It's a beautiful park, especially in the fall with all the colors of the trees. Where do your parents live? I live in Westwood/Western Hills. I'm sure I could talk my Mom into something at her place if your parents can't do. She lives in Colerain Township and has about an acre and a half of woods that's fenced in. She loves to entertain!
LindaAcup - My cousin and her family live outside of Indy. I'm not sure what the area is called, but you take the Keystone Avenue exit off 465. Take a right off the exit and I think they live on 110 Avenue. Their second oldest son owns/runs the All About Sports store around that area. They used to live in Carmel but moved in the house where they are at now. Very nice area. I always like to visit when we get the chance.
Anyway, whenever a date is decided, let me know.
LindaAcup 10-10-2004, 11:28 PM You know since Cinci is in a tri-state area, maybe you should post in Gen. Chat, OH, IN & KY, that way you might get more of us. We could meet someone and all bring something to eat and just let the dogs run for a few hours. I'd hate for everybody to have to go to your house, unless that's what you'd like. I'm definitely open.
Maybe you could call the thread "The Tri-State Lab Fest"?
Chocolatelabmom 10-11-2004, 07:37 AM Well what I meant to type before was that I *couldn't* write much........but I'm sure you all figured that out :)
Dogpark sounds good to me.............we don't have any here in Columbus..........
What date are we looking at? My husband has started a new job and will work every other Saturday.................but he just started this week so we aren't sure WHICH Saturdays this will be.........
Labbylicks 10-11-2004, 07:46 AM I would definitely be interested in attending!! My doggy is away at retriever training school, but I am fostering a 4 yo black female lab named Shelby. Shelby is very overweight and it would be a good thing to get her out to exercise!! I am from Cleveland, Ohio. Let me know the details... when they are available.

Riley413 10-11-2004, 09:05 AM Good idea Linda!:tup2:
It would probably work better for us if we all just met at the Mt. Airy Dog Park or something like that. Based on the number of interested replies this thread has already gotten, I'm guessing it will end up being quite a good turnout.
The date hasn't really been set yet, I'm thinking sometime next spring would be best. Possibly mid March to late May? If everyone could maybe throw out some good dates (general or specific) for them, maybe I could figure out what works best for the majority.:)
Spirit-n-Truth 10-13-2004, 11:55 AM I live in Columbus and I would be interested in an Ohio Lab fest.
Please keep me posted when you get a date.
mparris 10-13-2004, 01:06 PM i am an hour and half away from cincy. i would love to come. i need dates and times though because of work:( but i would love to come...
Chicklet 10-19-2004, 01:17 PM I too would be very interested in coming!! I live in Springfield so Cincy is only a little over an hour for me.
Riley413 10-21-2004, 04:20 PM Awesome.:) This will definitely not be held before March of 2005. However, if people would like to start throwing out some general dates that would work for them, that would be a B I G help.
LabsOhio 10-28-2004, 01:14 AM Count us in, we are in Columbus. If you need anything, let me know.
2 lab owner 10-28-2004, 02:18 AM Opal and I would be interested in attending. We might be moving to the Cincinnati area.
MISS LISA 11-08-2004, 04:40 PM I'll sticky this for you- looks like ya got a pretty good potential turnout.. Keep at it.. it'll be so worth it! :D
Riley413 11-09-2004, 02:12 PM Thank you so much Lisa! :)
Chocolatelabmom 11-16-2004, 02:51 AM Chewie is very excited! He hopes March comes very fast! We are in Columbus though(and I've seen a few others who are too) - so anyone who would like to do a "mini-lab-fest" here in Columbus anytime just let me know! Chewie LOVES to play with other puppies!
Avree 11-20-2004, 03:58 AM We're actually a lot closer to Columbus than Cincinnati. We're only about 20-25 minutes south of Columbus. Does Columbus have an dog parks?
Penny:)
Chocolatelabmom 11-22-2004, 01:49 AM Unfortunately we haven't found a "true" dog park. Now I will say that a lot of the parks around here are allowing dogs off leash - but it's after hours. During the summer it wasn't so bad - but now at 8pm it's a bit cold to be out playing!
Anything down your way?
labhead 12-04-2004, 06:17 PM If I'm still in this area in March I would love to attend this.
LabsOhio 12-05-2004, 02:13 AM My husband is an outstanding photographer, we will take all of the pictures you want! We can't wait to meet you all.
robrich22 12-10-2004, 06:40 AM I'm in Louisville KY - which is only a little bit over an hour.. So count me in!
- Rob
ConMurph 12-15-2004, 04:36 PM Conner and Murphy will be there!! We live in Cincinnati, so we are only 20 minutes away I think. And in March will be their first birthday! What a nice bday present!
ConMurph 12-15-2004, 04:43 PM Actually, I have a request about the dates, if nobody cares...I just remembered that we will be on vacation from March 12-20th. Obviously, I am not asking for you guys to work around my schedule, but if it comes down to it, any dates before or after that week would be great. But of course, it's perfectly cool if you can't work in my request.
:D
LindaAcup 12-15-2004, 05:01 PM I would love anything as close to WARM as we can get:).
I'm with Linda...as close to warm as possible please. ;) We'd love to come too. Lenny would like to run with other Labs! Would it be ok if we brought our other dog, a Frenchie, too? She thinks she's a big dog. :P
LindaAcup 12-19-2004, 03:50 PM I bet Mia could be an honorary lab for a day here. :)
Chocolatelabmom 12-20-2004, 01:59 AM Oh oh oh PLEASE PLEASE bring the Frenchie :) I absolutely adore the breed and am trying ton convince my husband that we need one! There is a brindle French Bulldog in our novice obedience class named Scribbles that I am in love with!
Maybe if he played with one he would realize we NEED one hehehehehehe
3CoolLabs 12-21-2004, 02:35 PM I think this is a great idea. I live in southeastern Indiana on the Ohio-Indiana border near Cincy. A date in the spring or early summer would be nice. Hope to hear more about it soon!
Casey thinks it sounds cool!

I'm in Cleveland, also! What part, Labbylicks? I would love to come to Cincy, but depends on when! How fun!
LindaAcup 12-31-2004, 01:32 PM I say the more the merrier. I would love lots & lots & lots of ppl & labbies!!!!
watergirl26 01-07-2005, 06:55 PM I just found this web page and I saw what everyone was talking about. I live in Ohio too. I live just under Canton on I-77. If you guys are going to have a Lab play date let me know I have two myself. Lady is a Blk 6 yr old and Maple a 9 mos old Choc. So, let me know if you guys do this. Thanks, Bobbie
Chocolatelabmom 01-12-2005, 08:42 AM Should we start throwing out dates and places? I know we were thinking of March which is just 2 short months away!
Chocaholic 01-12-2005, 08:50 AM We live in Georgetown, KY....only about an hour south of Cincy so we'd love to come if we can!!
Chocolatelabmom 01-12-2005, 08:53 AM I believe we had settled on the Cinci area so we'll all be very excited to meet Amos!!!
3CoolLabs 01-12-2005, 11:09 AM If you go to http://www.cincinnati-oh.gov/cityparks/pages/-4327-/ you can see some info about the dog park, a list of rules and a couple pictures! I think the weather in March can be a little nasty around here, the middle of May or first of June would probably be a lot better.

Rex wants to go!
GabbysMom 01-13-2005, 02:49 AM I live about 10 minutes from the Mt. Airy Dog Park. I took Gabby there I think some time in Oct/Nov. It's a great place, however, if this is where we decide to gather with everyone, I STRONGLY recommend that whoever plans on attending, they make sure their dogs are vaccinated for Bordatella. We had never been to a dog park before and 2-3 days after visiting there, I had Gabby at the vet with kennel cough. I don't normally vaccinate my dogs against this because we do not kennel them. I had never experienced Kennel cough before and hope that I never have to deal with it again because it is not a pleasant experience to go through.
If anyone has any suggestions on a place, please feel free to make some suggestions.
As far as when, March can be pretty ugly in Cincy, but then it can be pretty nasty in April too. You never know what the weather will be like. I guess we'll just have to decide when we find out what is best for everyone.
diver03 01-14-2005, 10:10 AM We're in Findlay - would love to come but Cinci is too far. :frown:
Avree 01-15-2005, 12:48 AM I live in Lancaster and a friend of mine has a lab that lives near Logan, she's also interested in going. She's been on the lab board a couple of times. I guess there is also a dog park in Athens, Ohio.
justmeandmylabs 01-17-2005, 05:49 AM I am from Cambridge Ohio. I would be very interested in getting together also. I have 2 labs and I also have a friend I know would love to come and she also has 2 labs. I can't tell exactly if you have decided when and where yet. Can someone clarify? I have been looking for somewhere to take my girls for a while. There never seems like there is anywhere to go. Columbus is only an hour from me. Not sure how far Cincinnati is. I have heard of the dog park there though. Please keep me and my girls in mind. We would love to be a part of this.
mparris 02-11-2005, 03:05 PM i think mid may early june would be best also. weather much warmer. hubby said he might be able to get rumpke to get us some doggy bag goodies from his company for promotion reasons free is good right???? . what do you all think??? i am so excited about this. i would need a count to see what we can come up with for the treat bags. and ideas of what to put in them.....
Chocaholic 02-14-2005, 02:36 AM I think that sound like a great idea michelle! I'm excited about the labfest...early June would be best for us!!
diver03 02-14-2005, 04:33 AM I might be able to come in June, as well.
mparris 02-14-2005, 12:37 PM ok everyone throw some ideas out there of waht we can put in these goodie bags??? i'm going to start talking to his company soon.
Mocha1 02-24-2005, 04:34 AM Did anyone decide on when this Lab Fest was going to happen?
http://www.picvault.info/images/42104_Mocha 4 months.jpg
3CoolLabs 02-24-2005, 08:00 AM Probably not going to happen until June when the weather is warmer. http://pages.prodigy.net/rogerlori1/emoticons/jossun.gif At least June has my vote.
MISS LISA 02-25-2005, 11:48 AM I'm going to un-sticky this for a while.. maybe in April or May, we can start a new thread seeing what new members have joined and then you can have a better idea when to plan it for :)
