A neighbor mentioned that they have poured a little Olive Oil on the food for their puppies.

Has anyone heard or done this?

Thnaks.

I have heard of it. I prefer giving my dogs fish oil capsules. Not sure if puppies really need the supplement.

Yeah I have heard of it :) It helps the dry coat...I give Sardines (any fish or fish oil/capsules will do the same thing?

Depends on what food they're pouring the oil on. It's recommended that it's cold-pressed olive oil (can be bought at health food stores).

I agree, adding fish oil capsules is better as a supplement with kibble, but with a RAW or Homemade diet, then one can use cold-pressed oils.

I have used olive oil with my dogs, usually in the winter when their skin/coats were a bit dry inside with the heat on. Just curious though, why do you think your puppy needs an oil supplement?

Not always but often people turn to oil supplements if they feel something is lacking in their dog's diet because their coat is dry, skin is flaking, etc.

I live in Portugal and olive oil is used for all food, even to frie potatoes:p:

Olive oil is rich in unsaturated fatty acids omega 3 and 6 which are very good to our dogs, the coat turns more brillant. The omegas are also good anti oxidants. In some dogs it minimizes the coat fall, not in Ulla:mad:

I use to add one big spoon of olive oil in Ulla's pet food everyday.
