What are the optimal levels for fat and protein for a lab to maintain good health?
I ask as some foods are much higher in fat and protein than others . A lot of hypoallergenic foods are lower in protein and fat than say a maintenance diet.

I think it depends on age and activity level.
I like to see at least 24-26% protein and 14-15% fat for an adult Lab with normal activity level. This helps them to maintain good muscle mass as well as healthy skin and coat.
I would like to hear other opinions as well. :)

You said it better than I could type - for an adult Lab with normal activity level to help them maintain good muscle mass and healthy skin and coat.
That is what I figured the %'s should be. Why then isn't there a hypoallegenic food with those levels for dogs with allergies.

That's a good question.
I can tell you that the food I feed has 26% protein, but it also contains more than one protein source.
Most hypoallergenic foods have only one protein source, so I am thinking this is why it has lower protein.
Hopefully, others will chime in for you.

Timberwolf Organics has their Ocean Blue with 26% protein and 16% fat. This is a grain free, fish based food which to me is great for allergic dogs. I am thinking of switching to this from Eagle Pack Holistic Duck and Oatmeal (a food I have really been happy with.) Piper seems to have trouble with white rice and EP began to add white rice to their Holistic line. I hate to switch foods, but I really do think white rice is one of her bigger problems.
