Brady's been on Orijen Large Breed Puppy for over a month now and (please don't let me jinx myself by saying this!) is doing sooooo great. He looks amazing. My family just came to visit and were amazed at how great he looks. I'm praying it keeps up! He was on antibiotics about a month or so ago (finished them about a month ago) for staph, so it could also be that the staph was cleared up from that.

Now, we started him on Orijen at 11mo, he just turned 1 year old last week. We need a new bag (running out!) and picked up a small bag of Adult because the store was out of the bigger bags. The adult is basically the same ingredients wise, just with slightly more calcium and a TOUCH (like point something) less Omega 3/6. He gets fish oil anyways so I'm guessing that's not a huge issue.

I noticed on their feeding instructions they say for his weight class, he should be swiched to adult at 14mo. Since he was doing so great - should I be keeping him on the Large Breed Puppy? The adult bag we bought was small so he'll need another bag soon. Or is it fine to just go with the Adult since he's a year old now (as of July 19). Thoughts?

Indie had no transition issues when we moved to the adult, and trust me Indie has issues with everything! Happy to hear that your pup is doing well.

He is old enough to be on adult food. What does your breeder say (if you got him from a breeder)?

Personally i would not go by the recommendations on the bag, (for feeding amounts either)

Also want to mention the importance of giving a live organism probiotic when a dog is or has been on antibiotics to put good bacteria back in the system that the meds killed off.

We switched Luna from Orijen Large Breed Puppy to Orijen Adult at 7 1/2 months. The differences between the two formulas is extremely minimal. Even the calcium level in the Adult (which is a guaranteed maximum) is on the low end for many adult formulas.

Good luck. I bet it will go fine.

Ok cool thanks! I guess I was just hoping that I wasn't ''fixing something that wasn't broken" kinda thing. The difference is really very minimal but by the same token - if it's that minimal is it even worth changing? We bought the bag (small - 2wks worth prob) last night so he's already on the adult so I guess it's a moot point, but I just can't get over how great he looks I am scared I'm tempting fate!!

Your lab will not stop growing up until 18 -24 months.. Those two formulas are quite similar.. The only benefit I see is the Cal levels are a little less in the Lg. Breed Pup. At this age your pup should do a good job at limiting Cal. uptake.. If the price on the Adult is better it should be ok. IMO
