Well...it was a huge victory for us because I did't even think Chip would get in. He is usually really nervous in unfamililar situations so I didn't want to put any pressure on him. And Abby got in the very first time...not too gracefully but she got in!!!!!! She is a fantatic when it comes to her ball so I didn't worry at all that she wouldn't go in. We had planned on being there only a couple of hrs since we didn't know what to expect, but ended up being there for 5 hrs!!!!!! There were a lot of other things going on as well since it was the International Sportsmen Expo. My kids and DH had fun doing a bunch of stuff like catching trout in a huge pool (they were put back), shooting targets with a bow and arrow, etc.

Another really nice highlight was meeting Christen99!!!!!! She came with her family: DH and 2 boys. She was so nice and it was awesome to meet a board member. One of her sons played with my son and they had fun too! Her lab, Guinness is such a sweetheart and enjoyed meeting her too!

We are definitely doing this again. Maybe even some lessons for both puppers now!!!!!! I'm so proud of both of them...Chip especially. I could have cried when he went in...it felt as if my heart would burst!!!!!

Abby checking it out. She sat about halfway down the dock and did run to
the edge but then stopped short to sniff and check to make sure the water was still there!

OK...well...she took the term diving seriously and went completely verticle!!!!
Bottoms up! I laughed so hard when this happened. She completely disappeared under the water!
http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a390/caedmons/IMG_3751.jpg

This is her best attempt of the day. A whole 2 feet 7inches!!!!! She was just kind of getting the feeling of stretching out to jump. The super star of the day, Mackenna a Flat Coat Retriever, jumped over 23 feet!!!!!! Unbelievable!
http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a390/caedmons/IMG_3773.jpg

Giving my little man a pep talk. I decided to go right to the dock instead of the exit ramp. I wanted to see if he could muster up the bravery to at least go off the right way.
http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a390/caedmons/IMG_3780.jpg

I think I can, I think I can......he was whining almost the whole time...nervous but so excited to go in.

WOW!!!!! Look at that form!!!!! I couldn't believe it!!!!!!!!!! I'm so stinken proud of him!!!!!! This was about his 3rd jump. The first time he went in, DH was off with the kids somewhere and Chip just kinda plopped in....at least he did it! He was so brave!!!!! :p:

The highlight of our trip: Christen with one of her sons Tyler and lab Guinness.
With me the puppers and my DD Emily.

Great pics Heather. How exciting for your pups. Chip appears to have good "form" with his dive. Glad you had a great time.

Uh...no....it was very cold. A few breeds who competed who don't have double coats, wore little vests to keep them warm! They were so cute!

It was so incredibly fun!!!!! Chip's jump ended up being just under 4 feet. I'm so proud of my lil guy!!!!!!! I'm beyond thrilled that he liked it because it shows that he does possess confidence. Now we will just continue to work on it so he can shine!!!!! :)

Thanks so much everyone!

aw that brought a tear to my eye!

Aww...thanks...it did to me too! It's hard to explain. I don't know a whole lot about his past. Just that he is really timid at times and is a bit of a wall flower when he is taken to day care (he's only been twice) and when we go to the dog park he usually sticks pretty close to me. My heart seriously ached with joy over him yesterday. :cry2:

Isn't it great watching your dogs master something (okay, maybe they aren't at 20 ft. yet, but they're gettin' there!) and have fun. I expect lots more pics of your pups gettin' BIG AIR!:D:D

Oh that looks like so much fun. I wish they had that in my area. I know for sure this time of year it isn't going to happen unless they have indoor diving. I tried a couple years ago at the lake. Luke would kind of fall in and come up gargling on water. Sidney would run to the end like she's gonna jump then turn around full blast back to the shore and go in from the shore. Darn. I can't wait to see more pictures from you next adventure.

Those are fantastic pictures, I love the one of Chip in the air! I only got the back view of chip each time since I was behind you so I could just see him enter the water as opposed to what he actually looked like going in. The first time he went in I don't know if you could hear me cheering the little guy on, but Tyler and I were there stomping our feet and cheering his name. Chip absolutely earned his bravery badge yesterday, I was SOOOOO proud of him it was fantastic to watch him show such confidence. The water was actually very cold, Ursula said that one of her dogs didn't jump at all because of the temps, and one other only went in once and only because she asked him to but she realized he really didn't like the cold so there were no more jumps. We were there today, and unfortunately a pup got hurt during the practice at the end of the expo (there were hardly any pups jumping at the time, just one or two). They made an announcement that they were looking for a vet in the crowd, so I don't know how bad the injury was but it was so sad.

We walked the expo today, and did the fishing, archery, and a few other of the kid things. They had 2 drawings, and Tyler won some neat stuff (fishing reel, hat, fish scale, fishing tackle) which he'll actually use since my dh bought the boys their first fishing rods for Xmas. We watched the end of the dock diving, and I believe McKenna won but I just watched for a few minutes. We had a great time, and we're considering going to the Sacramento Expo as well next weekend.

One not so wonderful moment today was seeing that one of the kennels had some pups at the expo (for sale of course). I do have to say they were very cute (2 chocolates and a yellow, the yellow had some eye poop staining it's face). I asked the "breeder" how old the pups were and she said they were 7 and 9 weeks. I was really surprised to see them there because there were a TON of dogs walking around, not always on the end of the leash with a bright owner and who knows if everyone has their vaccinations current. Did these people not consider the safety of the pups? There were a ton of kids crowded around the crate, and they were all reaching in to touch the puppies (as well as petting all the other dogs around the expo). I of course had puppy fever, but thankfully I was able to resist the cute little lab faces. The chocolate boys were HUGE however, and had great big blocky faces with green eyes...so cute. And the yellow was just so young that I wanted to snuggle her close.

Sounds like you guys had a wonderful time. I looked at the splash dog site, but couldn't find where or when one would be held in Georgia. I really want to go to one of the expo's. Me and Noel would love the dog events while hubby and my grandson checked out all the fishing and archery.

Thanks so much for rooting Chip on Christen! It's funny, when you're up there you don't really hear anyone else because I was yelling and cheering him on too! You guys are the best!!!! I was cheering Guinness on every time too...she came so close!!!!!

That is so sad about a pup getting hurt. :(

Congrats to Tyler!!!! WTG buddy!!!! :thumb4: I figured McKenna must have been the winner...no doubt in my mind after seeing her yesterday!!!

That is awful about the BYB bringing pups to an event like this! I have no words!   But no matter how maddening situations like this are, these puppies are here and need good homes. I sure hope they all fall into the right hands and have good, full lives. Good thing I didn't see them, I might have said something, or "saved" them all!!!!!! :D

Let me know if you end up going next weekend. I wish we could. We have a bunch of stuff going on.

You also might want to google dock diving and see what or if anything comes up in your area. I learned that there is a place called Bay Area Dock Diving (our area) and then learned that they were connected with SD. Good luck. I hope you can find something. It was a fantastic experience! :)

Congrats! Great pics of 2 impressive "future" Dog Divers!

This dog diving is really interesting, I wish we had it here where we live. I know that Zoe would take to it like a fish, she loves any type of water.

There are events that are indoors. I'm so glad that you had so much fun! Mason "jumps" exactly like that too, plopping right off the end, but he loves it :) I LOVE the photo of the actual dive right under water, made me laugh right out loud. Great photos. You'll love having them later when you've done it a few more times and you'll see the improvement confidence makes :)
