I have continued to make Ozzy his *meatloaf* in place of bagged or canned dog food. He really loves it. I have noticed his skin, coat, & ears are so much better now. The recipe I am giving lasts us for about 10 days/2 meals per day. I freeze and thaw as needed.

3 to 4 lbs of ground chicken or beef
1 1/2 lbs of organ meat - boiled and put through food processor
(I use heart because it doesn't smell)
1 1/2 cups oat flour
1 1/2 cups brown rice flour
1 1/2 cups spelt flour
1 1/2 cups barley flour
4 cups rolled oats
2 large sweet potatoes - ground up in food processor not cooked
3 large carrots - ground up in food processor not cooked
1 pkg of frozen chopped spinach
2 to 3 apples ground up or sometimes I use unsweeted applesauce
5 or six eggs
1/2 cup sunflower oil
5 tsps carob
5 tsps kelp
3 tsp nutritional yeast
2 tsp vit c crystals
3 tsp ground garlic
3 tsp parsley
1 tsp of each - oregano, rosemary, ginger, marjoram
1 cup filtered or bottled water.
If mix seems to wet add extra oats

Mix all in huge bowl - I use a canning pot - fill about 4 trays and bake at 325 for about 1 hour or until you think its done. Let it cool before you cut into meal size squares. I leave out enough for 3 days and freeze the rest. Ozzy loves his meatloaf. I also supplement him with vitamin E, lecithin, calcium carbonate, and omega 3.

All of the flours, nutritional yeast, and carob I buy at the bulk food store.

Forgot I also add in about 1/2 cup of flaxseeds

Do you grind the flax seed first?

I just add them in whole...Ozzy has no problem with it ... but I guess you could grind them up if you wanted to. I have also just put a spoon of them in the food once it was cooked because I forgot to add it to the recipe. Hope this helps.

I have a coffee/spice grinder that I use to grind a mixture of flaxseed, millet and groats. Java gets a fresh tablespoon of that mixed with oatmeal for part of breakfast most days. I believe I've read that the whole seeds can't be digested, but also that the seeds lose their nutrients if they are pre-ground.

I finally made Ozzy's loaf for Kendal and he practically dances around the kitchen in anticipation. I'm going to need a bigger mixing container to make it though!!!

How big a serving do you give Ozzy? I think it's about 1 cup I've given Kendal/meal. I'm mixing in his kibble for now, as well.
