Hi everyone. My brother and future sister in law got a persian kitten from a breeder about a month and a half ago. SIL loves persians and has one at home and one that recently passed away. So they got Dallas. From day one he was sick. Not eating, walking funny and swaying when he sat. They have had him to the vet numerous times, done a full blood workup and just recently he went to the hospital so they could get food in him. Well, he passed away yesterday morning. :( They are so upset to say the least.

The vet thinks he may have had something called FIP? Does anyone know what it is? He thinks it could be hereditary.

So my SIL (future) spoke to the breeder and before she even knew about the test results before he passed, the breeder said to her, she should put him down. Sounded suspicious to me. And the first kitten she was supposed to send her got sick and so she had SIL pick out a new one. I don't have cats, but have been around here long enough to know what a good breeder should do (cats or dogs). She basically offered to send her a new kitten at no cost, but didn't offer to refund the money from Dallas. I told SIL to not get another cat from this woman. She has already spent thousands on a kitten that didn't make it and I wouldn't trust this breeder.

I guess my question is, who do you report a bad cat breeder to? The responses from this woman have just been baffling and I think she knew she was selling a sick kitten.

Thanks

Some states have a puppy lemon law, and it may apply to kittens, too. Do a Google search on lemon laws & kittens. Other than that, I'd suggest the Better Business Bureau as a place to start.
FIP is Feline Infectious Peritonitis. I don't know enough about it to know about timing and how long an animal would linger, but it seems to me that it could be possible that both kittens had it, and the breeder didn't think that Dallas was affected. But it is viral, so as long as it was exposed to the other kitten, it stands to reason that Dallas could have contracted it from the other sick kitten (or both from the mother).
Here is a link on FIP. I read a little, but I haven't finished reading it.
