Breezeline 09-19-2008, 11:48 AM Oh Melissa, they are adorable.
I love when the pigment starts to come in. So need to watch that.
I really like how you mark them for identification!

They really are just tooooo cute! Love those little ears, tongues, and toes!! Awwww...
OK, now an ignorant question, but I'm curious (forgive me if you've addressed this before) ... I noticed their dew claws are not removed. Is that because they're potential show dogs? My Daisy came from a hunting kennel and hers were removed shortly after birth. I know from showing cats that they'd be disqualified if they were declawed or neutered.
Boochky 10-05-2008, 07:54 AM Brab, removing dewclaws is the breeder's preference. No issues with having them or not having them when showing. You'll hear arguments both pro and con. Hogan's breeder doesn't remove them and I don't mind them.
Melissa, I know you're busy with babies......but it's time for more pictures :D
(please)
nwlily32 10-13-2008, 11:34 PM very cute puppies.. I personally like the dew claws removed... 4 less claws to clip and no potential torn claws in the field.. plus it looks neater.. Well worth the added expense IMHO
SoCalLabLover 10-14-2008, 12:16 AM I personally like the dew claws removed... 4 less claws to clip and no potential torn claws in the field.
Probably only 2 less (labs usually don't have dewclaws in the rear like a Newfie). ;)
I actually prefer the look of a dog with its dewclaws (bulkier, more like a bear-paw, and gives the appearance of more "bone" for the showring). LOL
I also see my dogs using their dewclaws constantly when holding things to chew on. Many of the dog sports writers and researchers have also been writing lately about carpal joint arthritis that appears to be more common in dogs whose dewclaws have been removed. Interesting stuff...

It has nothing to do with expense, it's removing their thumbs! Besides that, it's an unecessary trip to the vet with 2-3 day old puppies, stressing them out, and possibly exposing them to god knows what. Keep them short and there's no issue in the field.
CanyonLabradors 10-14-2008, 09:27 AM We took them off too. I like it better without them. It was a hard decision, in the end, I wanted the cleaner look of the leg.
LisaM1190 10-14-2008, 10:36 AM I love the last picture, she looks like such a proud Mommy!
