Right now we feed Cooper (8 week old yellow Lab) 3 times a day. He gets a half of a cup of Eukanuba LB Puppy (breeder used this food) soaked in water at each feeding.

A few Questions:

1) Right now we soak his food for 10 minutes, drain the excess water then feed. When can we stop soaking the food as much? Do people usually always add a little water to dry kibble?

2) Are we feeding him enough or too much?

3) when can we go to feeding 2 times a day and when we do how much food at each feeding is appropriate?

4) We plan on Switching to Kirkland after his 20 pound bag of Eukanuba is finished, is this a good time to switch?

Thanks
jeff

we picked up chester last friday from our breeder. she gave us a schedule to keep (and never more than 3 cups per day):

3/4 - 1 cup for breakfast

1/2 cup for lunch (if he's hungry depending on how much he eats for breakfast - he normally doesn't eat it all at lunch)

3/4 - 1 cup for supper

She had him on Eukanuba puppy (hmm can't remember what it was exactly). But at 7wks, meaning now, she had us switch him to Eukanuba LB Puppy. All food is dry food. He's got sharp little teeth so it works ;)

There is no need to soak his food at 8 weeks. All of his puppy teeth are in and he should be fine eating the hard food. Many people (including myself) add water to kibble, but we don't let it soak. We just add water and serve immediently. The purpose behind this is to keep the dog from tanking up on water after a meal.

Am I reading it right that he's only getting a cup and a half a day? That just seems like too little to me for a pup.

I usually switch my guys to 2 meals a day around 4-5 months of age.

As your breeder when is a good time to switch to an adult food. Some people never feed puppy food. Some switch to adult as soon as they loose their puppy teeth or at 6 months of age. Some feed large breed puppy foods up until a year. Some feed only 1 or 2 bags of puppy food then onto adult. I, personally, switch my guys to adult food at 6 months of age.
