View Full Version : Puppy Food
LabbieLove1 11-06-2007, 06:07 PM I am new to the board and as i said in my intro to the board that i do not have a lab puppy right now.. and I am wondering what type of puppy food i should buy I have access to petco and i want the best for my labbie baby....
any suggestions welcome
I also was told that putting a lil raw egg with the kibble is good too..
tkpaul 11-06-2007, 08:07 PM If you find a good food, putting egg isn't really necessary. There are several sites that rate foods. Tomorrow, I'll post those site. I don't have access to them right now. I would recommend a search of the forum and looking at back posts to educate yourself. Good luck.
CanyonLabradors 11-07-2007, 05:42 AM First, you would want to continue feeding what the breeder is feeding for awhile as going to a new home is stressful on the babies. What we did that seemed to work great is we bought a 10# of the breeders food (Iams puppy) and when that was nearing empty, we switched her to Innova puppy) but by 4 months, she was on adult food.
CaraBella 11-07-2007, 08:58 AM I agree with Jen. You will want to keep the puppy on the food it is currently eating for a while.
As far as the food to switch to, all dogs are different and what is good for one, may not work for another. With that said, I think some of the foods that most people agree on are:
Eagle Pack Holistic
Innova
Canidae
California Naturals

Patty/Breeder 11-07-2007, 01:48 PM She may do fine on it. You will have to see how it goes. Good luck with your new pup and post pics when you get him/her.

There are a couple different ways to spell it. I have a Miya. It is a nepolese word meaning love. Napal spelling is Maya.

missretta 11-13-2007, 12:14 AM I agree with Jen. You will want to keep the puppy on the food it is currently eating for a while.

I wouldn't put Canidae on that list.

Although you wouldn't and I have never fed, it obviously works for a lot of board members. Like I said in the original post, different foods work for different dogs.

Well, you list four brands of food and say "most people agree on" them. If you're getting your information from the survey then why not just list the top 4? In this survey, Purina is in the top 4 and California Naturals (0) is not. Your statement is inaccurate if it pertains to the survey results and is simply your opinion. You could have posted the link for the survey and let the OP read all comments and make a decision. So, you posted your opinion based on what you believe and I posted my opinion based on what I believe. Food brands seem to be very trendy on this board, the length of time someone has fed a particular food would have been useful information to include.
Munlabs 11-14-2007, 05:55 PM Sadie was on Canidae from the breeder, and seemed to like it just fine.
I started to transition her to EP Holistic large breed puppy at around 3mos., and she ate it, but didnt woff it down, so I added Canidae back in a 50/50 blend. She likes it, and has good stools.
I am now trying to figure out which way to go from here, as I want to transition her off the puppy version, and I have about a week of the EP left.
When she hits 1 yr, I'm going to try the Evo
missretta 11-14-2007, 10:42 PM If she does well on the Canidae then that would be a good choice.
