View Full Version : Question about out of state adoption!

Okay I've been looking for a smaller lab mix (more than likely) that I can adopt for me and my new place. I have somewhat of a weight restriction at 40-45lbs. With that being said say I do find a pup that fits this bill that is really in need of a new home - and may be close to being euthanized and no one has shown interest in say 6 months - but the pup is many many states away. The adoption fee is very low at around $90 but I'm not sure how or where I would begin looking for help for (a) someone to get him for me and (b) get him to me. I've done local transports that have come as far South as SC and TN but have never had to plan one. I know some do not like to fly a dog to a new home. Thanks!

a is pretty easily solved. Contact a local rescue in the state your dream doggie is in and have them pull the dog. The only problem may be a lack of a foster home. If they have to board the dog, expenses go up, obviously.

b is also pretty easily solved. Have a transport set up, or pay to have the dog put on the "puppy bus". I can't remember the actual name of the company but the cost and stress is supposedly lower than flying a dog.

Thanks. I emailed a member here who is involved in rescue to get some help.

Did you find a new labby to love? Is his name Hershey and is he listed on the other adoption thread? If so, Yea for both of you! I had just read your post and then went to the other listing and read that, I wondered if he was your guy. If I'm wrong, so sorry but it seemed to fit. Best of luck in any case.:thumb4:
