Hello.
This is my dog called Mousse (a female)

I was wondering if she is a purebred lab or not... She is 2 years and 3 months... the person who gave me told me she was a cross between Lab and Dalmatian.. What do you think?

Thanks in advance

Are you trying to pull our legs? The dog is clearly purebred with no dalmation in her.

No, I'm not joking. The girl told me it was a mix. In fact, I've seen pics of other puppies supposedly from the same litter and there were dalmatian-labs. But then she told me that there were chocolate labs too other than my puppy, with no patches whatsoever... I haven't seen her parents in real life, only the mother (pure chocolate lab) in pictures. Perhaps she mated with a Lab and a Dalmatian so her mother had puppies from both... It can happen I guess...

My memory fails me I know, and high school genetics was a looonnng time ago but, won't the F1 generation of purebred parents resemble one parent or the other? Meaning though she does look like a lovely Lab it is possible one parent was another breed? Or does that not hold with dogs?

I really don't know. When I go out with her, people even ask who's the breeder where I picked her up. I tried to mate her now, maybe this is a way I can check if she's really a cross or purebred. The litter may have both breeds. I tried to mate with a black Lab, how should it work? If she's a crossbreed there are going to be puppies from both breeds, right? If they all come all chocolate/black equal to their parents, most likely means she's purebred... right? I really don't care about if she's purebred or not, I love her anyway. It's just curiosity because I can't believe it is a cross between a lab and dalmatian. Perhaps another breed, but not definitely dalmatian!

I'll put some more pictures from my baby!!

There is also the possibility that she's got a different daddy than the "dal mixes".......

If you're that curious there is a DNA test kit you can order. Maybe someone else here knows the name and source.

My guess is that there were 2 daddy's.

I think if you were to mix a lab and a dal, the F1 offspring would clearly have traits of both. Look at Labradoodles.

My memory fails me I know, and high school genetics was a looonnng time ago but, won't the F1 generation of purebred parents resemble one parent or the other? Meaning though she does look like a lovely Lab it is possible one parent was another breed? Or does that not hold with dogs? If what you are saying were true, then you would not get the Labradoodle from a poodle and a lab, you would get one or the other. So I don't think that holds true in dogs.

As far as this mating you just did...there are various options on what color the pups could be.

Take a look at this chart: http://www.blueknightlabs.com/color/coatcolor.html

You could end up with any combination of the 3 colors depending on if your chocolate (which I truly believe is a purebred) carries any other colors and if the black carried any other colors.

Please don't. You don't have any good reason to breed her. Spay her and enjoy her.

Oh 2 years old is still a puppy with labs!
Welcome to the board!

Please don't breed your girl, have her spayed and just have fun with her!

Yeah I'm new here... Thank you! I dream to have a dog since i was 4/5 years old (i'm almost 21)! I had a Rottie when I was 7 but then i gave him back 'cause my brother was born so it was a bad idea to have both at the same time so we waited till he was grown enough and picked this beauty up! Yeah I'm going out with her now! I'll take some pics outdoors and I'll post here when I come back!!!

She bred boxers, her bitch was bred to a stud from another kennel, the bitch got loose while still in heat and a mix-bred hound mated with her, The bitch had pups that grew up to look like full bred boxers and mixed blood hound. Same is true with humans, it is possible that twin babies can be from two different fathers.

I'm sure you are aware of this but your dog is either already pregnant or has had a litter of puppies in the past. From the picture you posted it is very clear that her nipples are pinked up... that only occurs when a dog is pregnant or after lactation.

Not necessarily. Sometimes the Chocolate and Yellow's teats stay pink while they are in heat or before or after they are in heat.
