coopers mom

Is anyone here familiar with this program?
I am thinking of getting Cooper involved in it. I would like to hear from those involved more of what it is actually like.
The org always has reps at various events looking to get new dogs to join their programs. They said a basic test needs to be done but nothing like that for regular therapy dogs. When asked what it involved she did a few things with cooper and said he would have no problems passing and in the few minutes she saw him, she could see how mellow and easy going he was and would be a good candidate for this program.
doesnt duncan/tanner's mom do something like that in her classroom?

I'm not involved, but would like to be. I've heard that guide dogs in training don't have to go through all the training and tests, so it'd be easy for me. I'm interested in hearing what other people say.

Dixie has done a reading rover program. All of the dogs are TDI (we don't have a delta program here) and the owners/handelers have to be CORI'd background check)
we don't do much, just let the kids read to the dogs which they do in groups.
We have to give the dog a bath the day before and we can't bring treats, the program provides them, as there are kids with alergies for both food and dander. We are in the school for about 45 minutes and dixie just lays around ad gets pet :)
She is 3 so she will settle quickly, but a good walk, not an exausting one is always a good plan before you go...

We are also involved in a reading program at out library. It is done one on one. I just kinda try to make myself invisible and let the child read to Toby. I am enjoying the program and notice the kids are really into it - so it is definitely a way to get them into reading. Like Dixie's Mom said, it is good to take a long walk before hand. But then again, Labs need that even if they are not being read too! :D
I've got a goal to get R.J. certified good citizenship. Our obedience instructors say he has a great disposition (i.e. mellow and easy-going and great with kids). I posted about this goal recently and am working with R.J. I'm interested in learning about dogs who are reading rover dogs. I want to take my dog to my own second grade class.
