Hi all

Here's a little background to me asking the question above...

Luna has had a lot of different problems with different kinds of food brands.. She itched on Nutro, had gass on Eukanuba, didnt seem to keen(sp?) on the Royal Canin Labrador.. Well she's been on (untill friday evening) Hills Science Plan Natures Best Large Breed http://www.hillspet.com/media/WEURG/product/prodKeyPDF/en/SP_K9_D_adt_NA_o_O_BEST_orig_WEURG_prodKey_en.pdf (link to food here)

BUT we have problems:

Constant gass (completely rotten and can clear a room in seconds)
Mushy poo
Hot earflaps and smelly ears (not itchy)
And a bad breath.. (teeth and gums are fine)

As we've had the smelly breath problem before with another foodbrand, a danish onehttp://www.henne-pet-food.dk/engl/index.htm (link here) , the vet and I agreed, that Luna has a problem with digesting the food.

The vet has now put her on a diet of boiled rice, fishmeatdumbling (seems to be a danish thing..) and yogurt.

Now I forgot to ask the vet, how much I'm supposed to give her per meal...

She was given 150 grams 2x a day plus a frozen kong with a mix of canned tuna, mackarel and yogurt...

Any ideas guys??

Fishmeatdumbling? Sounds (possibly) enticing...Can you post a photo? I want to know :D

I agree, speak with your vet, but in the meantime you might get some guidance here.

I assume you feed by weight over there? You'll certainly be feeding substantially more in a food containing natural moisture. How big is Luna? If she's a 30 Kg girl, feeding about 700 - 750 grams a day sounds like it might get you into the right range.

Hi

My vet isnt open sundays, so will have to wait till tomorrow :)

Luna weighs 27 kg.

I have a pic of a can of fishdumblings.. Its actually like meatballs, just made of fish :)

I cant stand fish myself, so cant tell you how they taste, but they sure smell of fish :hmm:

Here's a pic of a can:

Thanks for the pic! Fishdumblings look like something any dog would love - even if some humans might have to pinch their noses while feeding

Try the 700 g today and then talk to your vet. Luna will be happy with her fishdumblings. Hope things improve for her!

Just a thought, but has Luna been tested for whipworms? Years ago, our yellow lab had the same symptoms and it turned out to be whipworms.

hi

No she hasn't. Wouldn't they be showing in the poo??

I can add, that Luna is already feeling loads better. She's not that puffy anymore, havent had any "gass leaks" since saturday and the poo is back to normal.

Yesterday I boiled some chicken, and put in instead of fish. And she loved it.

I'm giving her about 700 grams a day and it looks good. If she loose weight then I'll add a bit more.

But I've just gotten the link to a food brand called Eaglepack, which supposedly shold be the dry "barf"

When Mike had whipworms, we didn't know either. The eggs in the stool are microscopic, so they can't be seen. He had horrible breath and was very gassy, and his poo was runny and mucousy. He was eating alot and gaining weight, so we didn't suspect anything. Here's a link to a forum in the UK with some info on whipworms. Even if Luna is feeling better, it wouldn't hurt to have your vet check her out and do a test for whipworm. Hope all goes well -- give us an update.

No it sure is no harm getting it checked out.
