This is either going to be a stupid question...more likely than not...:D

But I am curious as to the total # of off spring directly related to one stud dog in particular...Satch's grandfather.....Dickendall Arnold.....

Question 1. How many litters did Arnold sire....?The # of pups he conceived?

Question 2. How many Champions did breedings result in?

Question 3. Are these records kept anywhere public? or only the Dickendall owners would have ?

The reason for asking is when I google Ch Dickendall Labradors( Images). it is endless in results found....

Why not ask Arnold's owner?

Why not ask Arnold's owner?

I am shy:o: I would feel so embarrassed...even by e-mail...:emb:

It's funny how you get to know your pups mom and her breeder....but the Sire's are now from anywhere in the world.....

Do they mind hearing from strangers?

Honestly, I doubt Kendall (dickendall) would know. You can try contacting AKC. For a price, I bet you can get some sort of offspring record that would show litters registered and titles earned. CH offspring used to be kept track of by, I believe, the labrador quarterly (LQ), but it hasn't been done for some time now.

A huge majority of show bred labradors in the US (probably North America) go back to Arnold at least once.

**edit** If you go here...

https://www.akc.org//store/reports/dog/index.cfm?report_category_cde=DOG?external=yes&report_cde=PROGEN

You can get a progeny report that will list any of his offspring that have earned any AKC title for $25.

There is a wonderful article on Buckstone labradors website about Arnold. (Faith Hyndman is Kendall's partner). At last count, I believe the # is over 5000 offspring.....and I met a pup of his at Potomac this spring. Sperm on ice! I had a bitch of his. She was a dead ringer for her Papa and my heart dog Sadly, I lost her last year shortly before her 10th b-day.

Kendall is a very nice lady, and also a little shy. I suspect that she gets calls and e-mails everyday from someone asking about how their dog is related to Arnold.

A good place to start is Orthopedic Foundation for Animals. All dogs who were evaluated and the owner wished to have listed are on the list. Both Potion and Bandit have Kendell's dogs in their background. It's fun to search and easy to use. Of course, not all pups are listed. Those who are pets are usually not OFA'ed so not listed, but you will get a good idea of how widespread they all are.

Why not? The dog I used 10 yrs ago w/ my bitch sired 90 some litters and I was told the number by their owners. There are stud contracts at least to go back on. There's accounting (stud fees). If there is any record keeping at all (which there certainly should be w/ a stud owner as they have to sign off on every litter reg), that number should be no secret. Faith may well have that answer.

Yes, you could go to OFA and count the different litter reg numbers and that will get you within maybe 50-75%, but who knows how eager they were to offer him out at stud (mileage certainly varies on that issue!). Not info I'd pay hard earned money to learn though as there is far more important stuff to spend that $$$ on.

Given that OFA has him at 406 offspring, I'd say he sired a heck of a lot more than 90 some litters. Would she still have records of how many bitches he serviced (not all for a fee I'm sure)? Don't know. Would she know how many puppies were produced in all the litters? I highly doubt it. Would she know how many of the puppies went on to become CHs or other titles? I doubt it.

Better?

Thanks for all the replies ....and looking at the OFA...

I may work up the courage to e-mail the Dickendall owners one day....I was just curious about how much influence one dog has....his daughters most likely had huge effects because of the fantastic pups they produced...

I thought stud dog owners had to keep accurate records? Would these things not be included? I can see not knowing how many CH's or titles they produced, but they are signing the litter registration to say X number of pups were produced, they should know how many total, or give a ballpark.

It can't hurt to try, who knows, she may have been asked this very question 40 times and have a reply already made up!

There must be tons. I was looking at my dog's pedigree the other day and noticed Arnold was a great great grandparent or something. I think that boy got around.

Yup ... my boy was just bred to a girl who goes back to Arnold, LOL.

Don't be leary of contacting Arnold's owner!

Kendall is a very kind woman who I am sure would not mind an email from someone in regards to one of her boys.

I would say getting the progeny report is the most accurate way to get the info.

I think it is an interesting idea. Have fun with it.
