Shelby, our new 10 week old choc lab has been on Royal Canin. We picked her up on Sunday and have continued her on that food. Any thoughts on this brand?

Any thoughts on this brand? JMP 07-29-2008, 09:02 AM I would say if she is doing well on it than just leave her on it. I think it is okay but People might tell you it is not the best but the best doesn't work for every dog. If you start switching foods around at this stage of the game you could give her an upset digestive system which could upset the house training and crate training. Good Luck with your new pup. Labman 07-29-2008, 10:57 AM I have long suggested on the net, sticking to what the breeder is feeding. The more I read here, the more important I feel it is as long as it is working. I think there is too much agonizing over food on the net. In real life, I see large programs successfully feeding thousands of dogs which ever of the common brands, Iams, Pro plan, Science Diet, Purina 1, etc. they have chosen. I don't know why dogs on the Internet have so many problems. Royal Canin rates higher than those common brands, so I say, leave well enough alone. CanyonLabradors 07-29-2008, 11:31 AM Stick with what the pups on. If you want to change food, consider doing it when you change to the adult formula. Judy 07-29-2008, 08:21 PM I had a heck of a time trying to find a food for my pup. I tried several brands, all which she either wouldn't eat at all, or made her have an upset tummy. The last switch at the food store (yes, they let me exchange ones she wouldn't eat)..I talked to the owner and she highly recommended Royal Canin. I've been feeding it to Sage for a couple of months and it has worked great. I mix in a little canned food if she has picky days, but I've heard good things about it & my dog likes it! baxters80 07-30-2008, 06:06 AM Thank everyone for the comments. Well it appears that our Pomeranian has taking to the Royal Canin, and Shelby eats it up. We are having a problem getting our little boston terrier mix to eat it...One of our vets recommended Nutro Ultra. It is what she feeds her dogs...Any thoughts. uplander 07-30-2008, 12:19 PM Thank everyone for the comments. Well it appears that our Pomeranian has taking to the Royal Canin, and Shelby eats it up. Nutro is no longer the company it was .. In the past year it was bought out by Pet Food Giant Mars... with the intent to be like Iams, a supermarket food. Since the buyout a lot of quality issues have been popping up. |
