:D I just had Isis tested on her potential to become a SAR dog. She did great and I was told she has really good potential.

We are going to train for avalance and trailing. I know we have a long road ahead, but I'm excited (and I think Isis as well)to start working and make a positive contribution to my community. Now I just need to update my backcountry ski gear.

My Joe and I certified in area search/air scent last year, and Hubby will certify his Andy this summer in urban/wilderness trailing. Joe and I will also be starting our training in disaster search late this summer.

Thanks Kelly, I will. The group here is pretty small considering the terrian and amount of recreational use. I'm getting together with the head trainer to begin work next week in advance of their monthly training sessions. I'm very excited about it.

Can you tell us where you had him evaluated and what they did. I have a friend who got me into GDA that when his dog career changed he retrained him for SAR. His dog Borris has a number of scent tracking certs and now my friend is working on more of his tests now.

They first played a little but with her with a kong pull toy. Then I held her, they hid and she found them pretty darn quick (they gave me some commands to give - even though I'm sure Isis had no idea what the commands were). Next they walked a trail in the snow and hid. I held Isis with a harness and kept pointing to the tracks, saying track - she caught on pretty quickly an followed the track to find the person.

I used to live near Ventura years ago - beautiful place!
